Continue ReadingTo start off the week, I watched Wellston take on Riverfield Country Day School. These two small schools battled it out, but Riverfield won by a hefty margin. Coming off of a good ranked win against Class 2A Minco, who is ranked #11, Wellston looked to keep the momentum going, but they could not. Riverfield was up 40-20 at halftime and won 78-39. The next game featured two highly ranked 3A schools, being Cascia Hall and Metro Christian. Metro Christian hit the road to play at Cascia hall and pulled out the victory. It was close for most of the game, but they ended up pulling away towards the end. This game featured two teams that execute at a high level. They were solid defensively and extremely good offensively. It was a game that was a treat to watch. A week that featured a blowout and a close battle of ranked teams, lets find out what players showed up to play.
Chance Sanders
Chance Sanders
Chance Sanders had a good all around game and was one of the few bright spots in a tough day for Wellston. He got it done on both ends of the court, having five of his team’s eight points in the first quarter. He ended the game with 11 points. He scored most of his points inside, while knocking down a free throw. He showed the ability to get out and run in transition, as well as showing the ability to have nice cuts that lead to scores. Multiple times he scored from grabbing a rebound or coming away with a steal and taking it coast to coast. He came away with a block, multiple assists, and had good help defense. What I loved most about his game is that he gave it everything that he had, every second that he was out there, no matter what the score showed. He always looked to play for his teammates. It was a good all around game and he is not the one to blame for the lopsided loss.
Tyler Evans
Tyler Evans
Tyler Evans is a player that really stuck out to me for one reason: his rebounding. He would fight to get into position and box out to get rebounds. He had one rebound after another, with one of them resulting in a put back. On the season he is averaging 8.5 rebounds per game. He does not have the most size, but he has the heart and I.Q to get into position and to hustle for the long rebounds.
Anthony Harper
Anthony Harper
Anthony Harper was second on his team in scoring, doing it in a variety of ways. He ended the game with 15 points, knocking down threes, hitting contested mid-range jumpers, utilizing the floater, and getting out and running in transition. He was efficient with his shooting and showed that he can be a three-level scorer. In a game that was lopsided before we ever got to halftime, if that is something he does on a regular basis, this team will be in great shape. Between him and Braeden Clinton Braeden Clinton 6’0″ | CG Riverfield Country Day | 2024 State OK , the scoring was pretty well covered for the Ravens.
Drake Jarrett
Drake Jarrett
Drake Jarrett might have had the best perimeter defensive showing that I have seen this season. He was a menace on the defensive end of the court, having five steals at halftime and ending with six of them. Not only was he coming away with steals, he was playing great on-ball defense and force other turnovers. His impact went beyond his defense, as he grabbed multiple rebounds and showed the ability to score in different ways. He hit a three off of the dribble and drove and scored at the basket through contact. He did all of this against the #1 ranked team in the class, Metro Christian. It was impressive seeing what he was able to do. This kid earned the title “lockdown.”
Jyson Kim Jyson Kim 6’4″ | SG Cascia Hall Preparatory School | 2025 State OK was impressive against the #1 team in the class: Metro Christian. His team lost, but it is hard to point the blame to being on Kim. He scored in a variety of ways and provided much needed shooting. He knocked down three three-pointers, showed off a floater, and was able to hit shots despite a contest. His impact went beyond his great scoring ability, as he had two blocks and played great perimeter defense. His great perimeter defense even forced a carrying turnover. There was a third dimension to his impact: the ability to rebound. He came away with several rebounds, as he affected the game in multiple ways.
Highlights
Wyatt Powell Wyatt Powell 6’3″ | SG Metro Christian | 2024 State OK had a great game for Metro Christian against the #15 ranked Cascia Hall. He had multiple rebounds in this game, including a few offensive rebounds. One of the offensive rebounds led to him having a putback. He was able to facilitate the fast break to get an assist off of a defensive rebound. His offensive impact went beyond his rebounding, as he scored in transition multiple times and came away with some other assists. There was another offensive play to where he had a great cut that resulted in him finishing inside for an and-one. On the defensive side, he had a steal and a couple of blocks. One of the blocks was actually him flying out of nowhere to block a three-point attempt. It was a great all-around game for him that saw him dominate in a multitude of ways.

Brady Cox Brady Cox 6’4″ | SF Metro Christian | 2023 OK impacted the game in several ways for Metro Christian. He had a few rebounds, turning one of them into an assist with a great outlet pass. He had a couple of other assists and scored in multiple ways. He had some great cuts that led to easy baskets and was able to use the pumpfake well. He pumpfaked, did a crab dribble, and hit the reverse layup. Another play he pumpfaked at the top of the key, drove after getting the defender off of the ground, and drew the foul. He went on to knock down both free throws. Finishing in traffic was not a problem for him either, as he did it multiple times. Not only did he score inside several times, he we able to knock down the three. Defense was also in his repertoire, as he had a steal and a block in this one. It was a good game for him, in which he provided much needed scoring to help his team pull away in the fourth quarter.
