Expert Analysis

Kim looks to have fit perfectly into his new program. Primarily by making himself available for catch and shoot three pointers, which led to quick release, smooth three pointers. He also put it on the deck when needed, for a redirect to a new spot along the perimeter or get into the mid-range. And he also played a bit of defense where his tall and lanky frame helped out in the paint or helped clog passing lanes. It’s the type of role he would play early on in college and gives him a lot of translatable aspects to his game. Saturday was an indication of a strong start to his senior season and hopefully he can keep the momentum going.

After quietly starting 4-0 before Christmas break, it appears the Commandos are ready to make noise. Silky smooth junior scoring guard Kim scored 21 points in a 78-71 over Class 4A Catoosa in Skiatook. While they have an exciting freshman group, including

who also scored 21 points, Kim was the go to man for Cascia last year and will continue to be counted on for big buckets. He’ll have the opportunity to do that in a huge Saturday night contest against fellow 918 based 3A program, Victory Christian.

Of the shooters on the list, Kim earns his recognition as much for his work in the mid-range as he does for bombing from beyond the arc. The skill work the 918 standout puts in is evident in how he plays. As while he’s comfortable as a floor spacer he often looks his best getting to his spots in the mid-range where the same smooth stroke produces a similar effect. He’s often unbothered by defender’s hands in his face. After a busy and productive spring and summer, the Cascia Hall Commando looks set to take his shooting and overall scoring package to another level.

Kim has one of the tougher jumps to make as a prospect, going from good to great. He has traits that appeal to the next level, with good size, wingspan and most importantly shooting touch. In settings like the RUN showcase, he excels with his offensive game as he glides to his spot and his height often gives him advantage for high quality looks. These settings are good for identifying next level traits but can be fool’s gold if relied too much on from a scouting standpoint.
With a productive summer and now fall coming to a close, the winter at Cascia Hall will be a pivotal point in his career. Kim has the “float like a butterfly” aspect down with his skilled game. Now this winter will be his chance to prove he can “sting like a bee” with more steel and carrying over the production to winter gyms. The structure of games and likely being the focal point of defensive gameplans will give a better look to what actually translates to college. Class 3A is looking deeper and carrying the Commandos a step further than last year will be a good sign that Kim’s development has continued.

Jyson stock has been on the rise for some months now and it’s no surprise he stood out the way he did. His length in his wingspan allows him to shoot over the top of any and everyone. In this showcase in particular he wanted to show that he could get stops against the best kids in the area. With Kim wingspan and quickness he’s able to stay in front of smaller guards but strong enough to guard bigger players that might go to the post.

Jyson showed you why he’s one of the best in the midwest this summer. At 6’4″-6’5″ playing the guard spot, he just shot over players all game in the mid range area. When teams try to throw bigger or stronger players on him he just blows by them or uses his ball handling to create space and get his jumper off. You usually hate it when players fadeaway but seeing Jyson do it he just makes it look so smooth.

Jyson is a name thats starting to gain attraction everywhere he goes. One of the most dominating players in 16u this weekend did it all using his skillset and frame. He has great ball handling skills as he continues to show you when he crosses over and get to his shot for his pull up. His jumper is so smooth you encourage him to look for his own shot because of how easy it makes scoring look. If you are a smaller guard you can almost expect him to shoot right over you and if you’re bigger than him he will just blow right by you and finish through contact.

Jyson lived in the paint, bringing back the lost art in the game of the mid range pull up. He’s so good that once he realizes you caught on, he will double clutch allowing you (the defender) to fly by while he gets another open look. It’s not many people that has that kind of hang time in the air to pull that off but he did it all weekend. He changes the game because once you sag off anticipating the drive he will light it up from the 3 point line.
