While some of these guys will likely move over to guard spots at the next level, there are still some bigger kids here who could be great finds for coaches looking in the frontcourt.
William Dick
William Dick
Dick has been doing work for Omak, helping the Pioneers get within one game of first place in the Caribou Trail League. He’s a smaller forward at 6-foot-2, but he plays a physical style of ball and possesses some soft touch on his jumper. He doesn’t have great athleticism, but he’s able to clean glass by bringing superior toughness inside. He outruns guys down the floor, makes smart decisions on offense, and plays to his strengths as a strong, ball-skilled forward.
James Wigen
James Wigen
Wigen is a big kid, standing 6-foot-9 and brings some weight to throw around too. He’s only a junior and could develop into a nice defensive big man who can chip in some easy buckets and second chance points. He runs the floor extremely well for a guy his size, and though he doesn’t have many moves in the post at this point, he’s at least able to muscle through guys and finish close in. If Wigen can work on his offensive tools, and ramp up the aggression a bit, he could be a nice body in the middle who moves well and can defend the rim.
Galbreath is a forward who can work all around the paint on both ends and doesn’t stray too much from his strengths. He has range out to 15-feet, can put the ball on the floor for a few attacking dribbles, and has a good blend of strength and athleticism. I watched him in a game against Columbia Burbank earlier in the year and Galbreath was a force on defense making himself wide and keeping active hands to tip passes and block shots.
Kyler Mitchell
Kyler Mitchell
Mitchell is probably the most versatile forward on this list because of his athleticism and ability to hit the outside shot. He’s 6-foot-4, has some good bounce to him and moves really well, even playing more on the wings at times for Liberty Bell. There is potential for him to develop into a nice all-around player who can float from the paint to the perimeter, but he has to get some more consistency from his outside shot and bring more aggression inside, altering shots and grabbing boards.
Smokey Abrahamson
Smokey Abrahamson
Smokey is a calm player who uses his finesse and strength to get shots off and plays with a good awareness of the court. He’s a guy that could move over to guard at the next level thanks to his shooting, but still has the strength to matchup with someone a few inches taller. His strength is also what helps him get shots off and sink contested jumpers, while also using quick, compact dribble moves. Abrahamson doesn’t just have touch on the jumper though, he’s also capable of hitting the long outlets downcourt and making the smart plays with the pass.
