They meet in a Sky divisional matchup, with both teams battling for the coveted third-place spot in the division. The home team started fast behind the play of their guards, as Basic took a 15-8 lead into the second. They would go on to extend their lead to 10 at halftime. Del Sol would make several runs in the second half behind the play of Oscar Sampallo Oscar Sampallo 5'11" | SG Del Sol | 2023 State NV who finished with 8 in the quarter. Down the stretch the Wolves would pull away behind the play of junior guard Alvonte Nelson Alvonte Nelson 6'2" | CG Basic | 2024 State NV who finished with 7 in the period, going on to a 65-59 victory.
Most Impactful
He impressed right from the start. His ability to blow by, draw and dish was perhaps the most impressive I’ve seen all season. He’s got good positional size, and lean muscle in his upper frame which helped him navigate the lane and finish through contact around the bucket.
Best Offensive Player
My first look at Fox and his toughness is what stood out. His played through contact, scrapped for offensive rebounds and was successful on numerous drives to the cup. The junior slasher finished with 13 points in the game.
Best Deffensive Player
Lozano did a lot of things to help the Dragons. He was at his best on the defensive end, where he was more than solid on ball. The junior forward played with good effort and energy, harrassing opposing ballhandlers.
Best High Motor Player
You’ll always get your money’s worth with Waldrop. He plays with a consistent energy and motor from the second he steps on the court. I love his competitive nature, and willingness to defend. The guard however managed to impact the game on the offensive end, by playing downhill and attacking the hoop. He scored off drives, as well as multiple offensive putbacks.
Best Underclassman
It was fun watching a player like Yousif for the first time. He seemed to improve from quarter to quarter. The young freshman, is gangly and runs the floor well. When he was at his best, he scrapped, defended and rebounded. Yousif, showed improvment in his hands throughout the game as well. He managed to catch a couple in traffic passes for finishes around the rim.
Best Sleeper
I literally have written in my notes “Pruitt played to well to be ignored. Loved the moxie and confidence the senior guard played with, as he finished with 11 for the game including knocking down several big shots late for the Wolves to help the them close out the game.
Best Offensive Skill
Sampallo’s passing. I remember Sampallo from the Balldawgs camp early this year, and was extremely happy to get to catch him this year. He scored 13 points in the game, but it was his passing that opened my eyes. He has some flash to his dime dropping, and is accurate when hitting teammates with on time and on target passes.
