On Monday evening we made the trip to Towson, MD for an MIAA A Conference matchup between Loyola Blakefield and Boys' Latin. Loyola would end up winning by a final score of 71-58, improving their overall record to 11-11. Boys' Latin falls to 7-16 with the loss.

Let's take a look at some notes from this matchup.

[player_tooltip player_id='1366895' first='J'Lin' last='Brown'] | Loyola Blakefield '24

Brown led the Dons' attack with 15 points and showcased his scoring versatility throughout. The 6'4 junior knocked down a couple of three's off the catch, took advantage of driving lanes in a half court setting and looks to push the pace for coast-to-coast scores. Brown was a pest in the passing lanes where he collected multiple steals where he'd intercept the delivery and spark a transition opportunity.

[player_tooltip player_id='1598809' first='Mason' last='Ellison'] | Loyola Blakefield '25

It was a dunk fest for Ellison in this one. He threw down four in total with his first being the most impressive as quickly attacked the rotating defense on a quick swing to the left wing where he got form the three-point line to the middle of the paint in two steps before taking flight and flushing it down with two hands. He ran the lanes in transition for his other slams and sprinkled in a few pull-ups throughout the way en route to 14 points.

https://twitter.com/srellison921/status/1625376857485983744?s=20&t=prHaJzLCIp1kkqnhONKCxg

[player_tooltip player_id='1482973' first='Jake' last='Stout'] | Boys' Latin '23

Stout led the Lakers with 14 points in the loss. The 6'5 unsigned senior did a nice job of using his strong frame to establish space before getting off his patented mid-range fall away jumper. He also had a couple of three's off the bounce where he looked confident and in rhythm. Stout was also a presence helping close down the defensive glass.

Quron Elliot | Loyola Blakefield '25

Elliot did a nice job of orchestrating the Dons' attack from the point guard position as he controlled the pace. The southpaw guard was patient in ball screens where he'd put his defender in jail, work his way into the paint and finish soft-touch floaters when the help defender failed to contest in time. He also converted on a catch-and-shoot three from the right wing in the first half. On the defensive end, he pressured the ball effectively and helped caused a couple of turnovers with accurate, active hands.

Eliseo Agudo | Boys' Latin '23

Agudo did his work in the second half where he made his presence felt in the paint. He did a nice job of establishing position for post entries with a strong seal and drew contact to force the referees to make a call. He dumped in a couple of easy bunnies following catches in the dunker's spot when his defender stepped in to halt penetration where he showcased dependable hands.

Sam Navarre | Loyola Blakefield '25

Navarre is always a joy to watch for me because he's a low maintenance big who embraces his role. At 6'4-6'5, he plays with great physicality, battles for 50/50s and has an underrated skill set offensively. He can over his left shoulder on hooks from the block and stepped out beyond the arc for a three that looked very fluid. Navarre communicates defensively and works to keep his position when others try to seal him in the post.
