But tied in the final minutes, Southern University football signee C’Zavian “Zae” Teasett scored seven straight to life the Hornets to the 66-60 victory and, for at least the night, the head-to-head edge in the league standings.
“Just being there for my team,” Teasett said. “I know that during the game other guys were stepping up and making plays, but at the end of the game, me being the senior and me being the guy that’s been there, I just felt that I had to take control of the game.”
The Hornets and the Bears, who were celebrating their senior night, now sit at 3-1 in district play entering their final regular season games Friday against Woodlawn and at Zachary, respectively.
Zachary will visit Liberty Magnet on Wednesday with the winner climbing into a three-way tie for first in the league.
Liberty Magnet will visit Central on Friday to close the regular season.
Scotlandville now holds head-to-head tie-breakers over Catholic and Zachary.

C’Zavian Teasett C’Zavian Teasett 6'3" | SG Scotlandville | 2023 State LA (2023) | 6-4 F | Scotlandville
The senior started each of first two quarters with go-ahead 3-pointers and added another late in the half before starting to increasingly gain more of his game-high 23 points in the lane or at the foul line, including his pivotal seven-point run on a contested jumper just inside the foul line, a rim-attacking three-point play and another pair of free throws. Teasett is a versatile jack of all trades whose veteran poise is an underrated piece of Scotlandville’s high-level success this season. In addition to scoring at all three levels, he led the Hornets with five rebounds and game-highs of five assists and two steals. And in moments of potential frustration by miscommunication or Catholic’s hustle and defense, Teasett was an unflinchingly calm voice and leader on the court.
Dorian Booker Dorian Booker 6'10" | PF Scotlandville | 2023 State LA (2023) | 6-10 C | Scotlandville
A visit to the undersized, perimeter-oriented Bears presented an interesting matchup for the big UNO signee. Catholic managed to keep multiple defenders close enough to Booker to make positioning and entry passes difficult to come by, all while forcing him to defend out to or even well outside of the 3-point line on the other end of the court. But Booker still managed seven points and a rebound in the first half and then found his way to more quick baskets in the second half for six points in each quarter en route to a 19-point, three-rebound evening overall. He also blocked a shot and remained a constant defense impact with enough quickness and length to get back to the basket and deter or alter most of Catholic’s potential shot attempts or leave others seemingly tentative because of his presence alone. He also recorded a steal and a pair of assists on quick, nicely delivered interior passes to free cutters out of his double-teams.
Jamal Drewery Jamal Drewery 5'10" | PG Scotlandville | 2025 State LA (2025) | 5-10 G | Scotlandville
The sophomore point guard hit three 3-pointers of his own — going 3-for-4 (75%) on the night — and several late free throws en route to 16 points despite battling foul trouble that pushed him to the bench more often than usual.
Stan Levy (2023) | 6-1 G/F | Catholic
The Catholic senior epitomized his team’s early hustle and intensity as he flew around the court for rebounds, loose balls, steals and deflections. Levy had four of his five rebounds early to help lead the Bears’ strong start in that area and advantage on the boards for the game despite working against the big, physical duo of Booker and Teasett. His quickness and use of his body helped him work his way into the lane as much as anyone, initially drawing defenders and finding open teammates for four assists and eventually adding six of his own points to the scorebook.
Dennis Hebert III Dennis Hebert III 5'11" | SG Catholic | 2023 State LA (2023) | 6-0 G | Catholic
Another Bears senior led the team in scoring with 17 points thanks to three 3-pointers, including a pair that served as big answers in a back-and-forth third quarter. Hebert does not shy away from big shots, big moments or contact.
Tate McCurry Tate McCurry 6'3" | CG Catholic | 2025 State LA (2025) | 6-2 G/F | Catholic
The sophomore standout shot 2-for-3 from deep to finish with 14 points, a game-high seven rebounds and a pair of steals, including one inside on a well-timed snatch of an attempted pass by Booker across the lane.
Nico Jones (2025) | 6-1 G | Catholic
The sophomore guard was a breakout performer for the Bears in the pivotal game with both his defensive hustle and his timely scoring. Jones hit a second-quarter 3-pointer before adding another in the fourth, along with some clutch free throws and timely drives. He also recorded a steal, a rebound and appeared to have blocked a 3-pointer before a late foul call that coach Derrick Jones heavily contested.
