SubscribeOne statistic we track during the season at the 6A level is scoring and there have been plenty of guys who have put up points during the 2022-23 season. Here’s a look at some of the top juniors who rank among the state’s leading scorers – and how they have been getting their buckets (scoring stats are through 2/19).

(2024 Roosevelt) – 22.3 ppg
Possessing perhaps the quickest first step in the state, White has utilized that and more to get plenty of buckets this season. The junior guard has been nearly unstoppable off the bounce while he’s maintained his ability to hit corner threes. After dealing with some injuries in mid-season, his scoring really rose as of late with

(2024 Roseburg) – 21.0 ppg
A bit of a sleeper going into the year, Mendoza has quickly made an impression with not only his ability to get hot from three point range but his ability to get to the hoop and finish at the rim. It’s not uncommon for the lefty guard to throw down multiple transition dunks in each game and he recently notched one of the highest scoring totals in all of 6A this season with a school-record 48 points.
Trey Saunders (2024 South Eugene) – 20.5 ppg
Saunders was an unknown quantity to most outside of the Axe program and started out the season on fire. The junior knocked down shots from deep but was also very effective getting out and finishing in transition. A mid-season injury shelved him for a bit but he’s back – and at the right time to help South Eugene make a late run at the post-season.

– especially as of late – but that’s just fine for the junior as he’s just as comfortable running the offense at the point. But the junior can definitely put the biscuit in the basket, whether it’s hitting shots from long range or getting into the lane and finishing with the floater or at the hoop.

OR
(2024 Tualatin) – 19.3 ppg
As dominant as he can be down low with his footwork and physicality – Steppe will be the first to tell you that he’s more than versatile enough to be effective from the perimeter. The 6-foot-8 junior has done just that for Tualatin, using the dribble to either set up his perimeter shot or get to the basket for finishes. He’s been particuarly effective running the floor and scoring on the break.

(2024 Benson) – 18.3 ppg
Douangphrachanh’s calling card will likely always be his perimeter shooting – he remains one of 6A’s top three-point shooters – but the junior has consistently worked hard on getting to the basket and he’s been getting scores in that manner, often initiating and finishing through contact. The guard has also been recently showcasing his athleticism, with several drive-and-dunk moments making the highlight reels.

(2024 Wells) – 17.4 ppg
We all expected Canalin to take on a lot of scoring this season for a rebuilding Wells team, and the junior has taken on the responsibility just fine. The point guard has effectively used his quickness to get to the hoop and score over bigger players, while also utilizing his shifty dribble to break free for step-back jumpers from distance. His fast hands on defense have led to many a steal and easy layup on the other end.
