Providence stuns Southwestern (Hanover)
Last night saw Southwestern (Hanover) gain their first loss of the season to the reigning 2A state champion Providence 68-42. Noah Lovan Noah Lovan 6'3" | PG Providence | 2024 State IN was the leading scorer for the Pioneers with his 21 points while Peyton Gwin Peyton Gwin 6'0" | PG Southwestern | 2023 IN lead Southwestern with 14 points. Southwestern had won 12 in a row before dropping this one last night. Providence improves to 6-3 on the season.
Buchannan goes off
In what was an exciting game at the 4A level, Westfield went on the road to defeat Mt. Vernon Fortville 67-58. 2024 guard Trey Buchanan Trey Buchanan 6'0" | PG Westfield | 2024 State IN went absolutely off last night with his 25 points which included 4 threes. On the MVF side, it was senior guard Eli Bridenthal with 15 points that lead the Marauders. It was the experience of Westfield vs. the youth of MVF and the experience was what prevailed. Alex Romack Alex Romack 6'6" | PF Westfield | 2023 State IN made some plays down the stretch and no matter how well MVF freshman Julien Smith Julien Smith 5'10" | PG Mount Vernon (Fortville) | 2026 State IN or Luke Ertel Luke Ertel 6'1" | PG Mount Vernon (Fortville) | 2026 State IN played, Westfield always had an answer. Both of these teams are sneaky good.
Hammond Central continues to roll
Up north, the Hammond Central Wolves continued to roll with their win over East Chicago Central 76-54. On the night, 4 players scored in double figures for Hammond Central which included Daniel Garza Daniel Garza 6'5" | PF Bosco Institute | 2024 IN with 20 points, Vynce Overshawn with 17 points, Jordan Woods Jordan Woods 6'2" | PG Hammond Central | 2023 State IN with 12 points, and Matthew King Matthew King 6'3" | SG Bosco Institute | 2024 IN with 10 points. East Chicago Central’s Dominique Murphy was actually the leading scorer for both squads with his 23 points. Hammond Central is not 12-1 on the year.
