On Tuesday night, we didn’t have nearly the amount of games that we normally do as quite a few teams are gearing up for tournament play, starting on Thursday. But we did have a few good games in the OKC area and even a big game in the Tulsa area from Monday that we focus on. We spotlight some of those performances here. If we missed a top performer, let us know! Email Michael@PrepHoops.com and be sure to send in your top performer picks following the games each week!
In arguably the biggest game of Tuesday night, Choctaw went on the road to Putnam City West and walked away with a 68-67 win in a battle between two top ten teams in Class 6A. The Yellowjackets were led by senior guard Cam Hunt Cam Hunt 5’10” | PG Putnam City North | 2023 State OK , who finished with a team-high 23 points in the win. They also had two more players joining Hunt with 16 points a piece in Isaiah Taylor Isaiah Taylor 6’5″ | SF Choctaw | 2024 State OK and Ja’Mon Valentine Ja’Mon Valentine 6’2″ | CG Choctaw | 2024 State OK but it was Hunt who would go off on Tuesday. The Yellowjackets were returning to the floor for the first time since their only loss on the season which came at Putnam City West but to fellow top ten team Lawton. The Yellowjackets now shift their focus to Edmond Santa Fe in the Bishop McGuinness Classic. We’ll be there and looking forward to seeing Hunt and company as they come into that tournament as one of the favorites to walk away with the tournament title.
Holland Hall did play on Tuesday night and took care of business against Regent Prep, winning 65-18 to improve to 10-0. But we’re spotlighting their win on Monday night over 4A’s #9 Victory Christian. Senior star Jadon Cool Jadon Cool 6’3″ | CG Holland Hall | 2023 State OK would go off in their 46-40 win on Monday night with a game-high 31 points in the win. On Monday night, that was a battle between two top ten teams in Class 4A. On Tuesday morning, Holland Hall was shifted up into Class 5A in an unprecedented move by the OSSAA. We’ll have more on that later in the week on the site. But for now, it’s all about Cool and his stellar senior season. He has the Dutch as one of the top teams in the Tulsa area and with their bump up into Class 5A, they still are state tournament contenders in our opinion and immediately provide a threat to Memorial and Nathan Hale as contenders on the east side in Class 5A.
In another intriguing match-up in the OKC area, Del City would knock off Bishop McGuinness at home with a 61-54 win. Leading the way was senior guard Percy Green Percy Green 6’4″ | SF Del City | 2023 State OK , who continues to have a breakout season after an outstanding spring and summer on the grassroots level. Green would finish with 22 points in the win and this is coming after last week where Green was one of Del City’s top standouts at the Whataburger Classic in Texas. The Eagles went 1-2 against tough Texas competition but Green still stood out for Del City. Green and the Eagles will be back on the court on Thursday in the first round of Bishop McGuinness classic against Norman North. They are on opposite sides of the bracket from Choctaw and their standout from Tuesday in Cam Hunt Cam Hunt 5’10” | PG Putnam City North | 2023 State OK . But they could also see fellow 5A state tourney contender Southeast, who is also on Choctaw’s side of the bracket.
Anadarko got their busy week started on Tuesday night with a 59-41 win over Elk City. The Warriors had a few standouts that were filling up the stat sheet but we’re giving the nod to senior guard Rayden Churchill Rayden Churchill 6’2″ | CG Anadarko | 2023 State OK , who finished with 27 points and 14 rebounds in the win. There’s no doubt that Anadarko is a team that could make a lot of noise in February and March and could potentially stun a few of those other 4A teams that we have listed as the main contenders. That’s just how Class 4A feels this season as the top 20 is absolutely loaded and the playoffs could provide quite a bit of chaos. But Churchill is a big reason why we like Anadarko. He’s a big bodied guard who is very physical and has proven he can also score and doesn’t have to just stick that physical style of basketball. Anadarko will host Guymon in the first round of their tournament on Thursday.
While most of the top games on Tuesday night were in the Oklahoma City area, we did have an intriguing match-up in north Tulsa as Booker T Washington hosted Bartlesville. It was a stellar performance from the Hornets from start to finish as they would send the Bruins headed back up highway 75 with a 77-47 defeat. The Hornets were led by senior guard Ty Holdman Ty Holdman 6’1″ | CG Booker T Washington | 2023 State OK , who picked up right where he left off last week in the Mustang tournament. He would lead Booker T Washington with 21 points in the win a week after being one of the top players in the tournament at Mustang. Holdman and the Hornet defense also made headlines by holding Bartlesville star guard David Castillo David Castillo 6’1″ | PG Sunrise Christian Academy (KS) | 2024 #80 Nation KS to 14 points. The Hornet defense was one of the best last season and they are back at it again this year. They have the rest of the week off before hosting Jenks on Tuesday night.
