There was a 40 plus point performance from a returning league MVP on the West side. Taking a closer look at some big numbers and young players.
Quincy is a young team led by a freshman point guard Pierce Bierlink (21ppg), Julian Ibarra Julian Ibarra 6’4″ | SG Quincy | 2024 State WA a junior (20ppg) and Bews (19ppg) before last night’s game. Bew’s took over as the season leader in exploding for 50 points in a win over Royal. He got buckets from all over the court. He has a great touch on his shot for a post player and his three balls were looking smooth and in rhythm. He can get deep in the paint and finish at the rim. He put it on the floor and got to the rim. He was impressive. I can’t decide if I was more impressed with how well he can shoot it or how well he can do everything else. Very smooth and can run the floor. Quincy has some great young talent and they are a dangerous team in the here and now.
He is getting buckets from all levels and averaging 21 points a game. He had games of 27 and 25 last week while dropping 10 threes in the two. He got to the rim, and used the pull up jumper when not knocking down threes at a high percentage. He is a great shooter who understands the need to use the defense to his advantage. When they fly at him, he goes around and can finish well with strength at the rim. He also had games of 26, 24, 22, and 21 showing up consistently on a nightly basis which is impressive for a sophomore. He is a player on the rise in the class of 2025.
Highlights
He started for a state tournament Davis team as a freshman last year. This year they don’t have a senior on the roster yet are still making some noise. He had 33 points in a game vs Eisenhower last week. He has been consistently good all year long. He had 14 last night vs West Valley in the loss. I don’t know his season stats but am guessing that is on the lower end of his scoring totals. He shoots it well from three. He is really good at getting downhill and uses his quickness and ball skills well to get himself free for shots. Starting as a freshman last year he didn’t look out of place and that has done nothing but help him this season. With the likes of Brandon Lee Brandon Lee 6’0″ | CG Davis | 2024 State WA and Blake Garza Blake Garza 6’6″ | SF Davis | 2024 State WA to name a couple, Davis also has a bright future.
He scored 42 points and had 14 rebounds in a loss to Eatonville. He is a high energy player who can get points from all levels. He is tough on the drive and can knock down long balls. He has good quickness and is crafty when he gets to the rim. He is the main source of offense for Hoquim and despite seeing a number of gimmick defensive looks. He has still had some huge games. He is a lefty who can get hot from three but he is best when in the open floor. He gets downhill in a hurry. He also plays defense and rebounds as evidenced by his 14 vs Eatonville.
