Alston still led the way for his squad with 18 points but he exhibited a much more concerted effort to get his teammates involved and it came in handy down the stretch as he took home MVP honors in the Navy bracket for Franklinton High. He knocked down three early 3-pointers to set the tone on the perimeter then found his teammates in space to squeeze out a 56-51 victory in the end to take home the championship. He’s one for DII and DIII programs in the area to get eyes on.
Alston had another big game including the game-clinching free-throws to lift the Wake Forest Cougars to an improbable victory against the host team. He buckled down in the fourth quarter with 10 of his 21 points coming in the final quarter. When things got close, he looked to get to the rim and it paid off for him with the MVP award in the Columbia bracket of the South Granville Holiday Invitational.
Highlights
Grant showed off his ability to be an effective scoring threat in the backcourt in the Cougars’ final day of action. He finished with 20 points and was a big reason for Wake Forest’s double-digit lead at the half. He didn’t falter when things got close though as he looked to get the ball to Alston inside for easy buckets. He’s a heady unsigned senior guard that DII and DIII schools in the area should take a look at.
Smalls was another reason for Wake Forest’s early offensive surge. 10 of his 12 points came in the first half as he showed off his ability to be a spark in the Cougars’ backcourt with a barrage of pull-ups and 3-pointers. He’s an unsigned senior name for DIII and JUCO programs to get to know in the state.

Sam Frye
Frye stepped up in a big way once again on the final day with eight points and his ability to be a pest on defense and on the boards. He was an effective shot-blocker and rebounding threat that made things difficult for the South Granville guards on the wing and in the paint.
Prince was a leader in the CB Aycock backcourt once again with Jaidyne Dunn Jaidyne Dunn 6’1″ | CG CB Aycock | 2023 State NC in tow, though in the end, it wasn’t enough. He stilled showed he could create off the bounce and get to his scoring spots with all the defensive attention on him. He’ll be one to keep eyes on come conference play given what he can do with and without the ball in his hands.

Dunn kept his foot on the gas as all the attention was on Kamran Prince Kamran Prince 6’2″ | PG Trinity Academy Raleigh | 2025 State NC by the Franklinton defense. He matched Prince’s scoring effort with 18 of his 21 points coming in the second half. He showed he could get by defenders and finish in the paint time and time again with the ball in his hands. He even showed he could space the floor with his perimeter shooting as well. He’s a name to keep eyes on for DII and DIII schools in the area with CB Aycock High.
Gass stepped up in a big way for South Granville High despite the result, especially in the early going when shots weren’t falling for his teammates. He finished with 28 points along with five made 3-pointers to lead the offensive attack for the Vikings. He battled through injury to show off his toughness on both ends of the floor and it showed as he put together a career night for his squad.
Roberts overcame a tough shooting night and sparked a run in the third quarter to get South Granville back into the game in the championship. He still managed to rack up 14 points with two made 3-pointers to contribute. Despite the struggles in the final day, he still had a strong overall performance in the South Granville Holiday Invitational with his ability to make plays for himself and others.
Highlights
Pettit’s late scoring surge was nearly enough to lift South Granville in the end. He finished with 16 points, with 15 of them coming in the second half as he knocked down three 3-pointers during a big second half run to push the envelope. He continues to show why he’s to be considered a top shooter in the 2024 class.
