The six players we previewed in our original PAC POY post (Presented in alphabetical order below.) all remain strong candidates to win the award. However, over the last two months a few other prospects have played outstanding basketball and thrust themselves into the Pioneer Athletic Conference POY conversation.
Below is a look at the updated 2022-23 PAC Player of the Year award watch list.
Preseason POY Watch List:
Nyles Bunn-McNeill Nyles Bunn-McNeill 6'5" | SF Pottstown | 2023 State PA – 6’6” / Senior / Pottstown / Eastern PA Elite / Wing
Matt Christian Matt Christian 6'3" | CG Methacton | 2023 State PA – 6’3” / Senior / Methacton / Eastern PA Elite / Shooting Guard
Dom DeMito Dom DeMito 5'11" | CG Pope John Paul II | 2024 State PA – 5’11” / Junior / Pope John Paul II / Eastern PA Elite / Combo Guard
Sadeeq Jackson – 6’0” / Junior / Pottstown / NEPA Elite / Combo Guard
Jake Kapp Jake Kapp 6'3" | SF Boyertown | 2023 State PA – 6’3” / Senior / Boyertown / Eastern PA Elite / Small Forward
Madison Tatom Madison Tatom 5'11" | SG Upper Merion | 2023 State PA – 6’0” / Senior / Upper Merion / PSB Philly / Combo Guard
New Names for Updated POY Watch List:
Ty Elliot-Moore – 6’0” / Junior / Pottstown / Eastern PA Elite / Shooting Guard: Elliot-Moore possesses extraordinary basketball instincts as well as solid handles and impressive court vision. Those assets allow him to serve as a secondary ball handler and deliver precision dimes to teammates. Still, his primary job for P’town is to get buckets and he is extremely good at that job. Elliot-Moore (14.6 ppg.) can knock home jumpers from all over the floor. Once his jumper is flowing, he will use a pump fake to set up a dribble drive to the rack. His season highlights include 24 points (4 threes) vs. Great Valley and 21 points against Upper Merion.
Luke Fryer – 5’11” / Junior / Owen J Roberts / Philly Pride / Combo Guard: Fryer has emerged from the shadows to become one of the most respected 3-point shooters in the league. In addition to splashing threes, Fryer can run as a rock steady point guard who can get a team into their sets or score off the bounce. So far this season, Fryer is averaging 15 points per contest. His notable performances include 24 points (3 triples) vs. Downingtown East; 22 points (3 triples) vs. Methacton; and 21 points (2 threes) against Boyertown.
Jacob Nguyen Jacob Nguyen 6'3" | SG Spring Ford | 2025 State PA – 6’3” / Sophomore / Spring Ford / Philly Pride National / Shooting Guard: Nguyen’s addition to the PAC POY conversation should not come as a surprise. After a monster summer on the grassroots circuit, Nguyen (14.5 ppg.) continues to score in bunches at all three levels. His preferred scoring method remains the 3-ball (34 made threes). With his deep range, quick trigger and constant off ball movement, Nguyen is difficult to guard behind the arc. His top efforts this season are 26 points (5 threes) vs. Holy Redeemer and 24 points (5 threes) vs. Wilson.
Julian Sadler Julian Sadler 6'1" | CG Perkiomen Valley | 2024 State PA – 6’2″ / Junior / Perkiomen Valley / Prim3 Tim3 / Combo Guard: So far in 2022-23, Sadler leads the PAC in scoring at 23 points per night. That is not a shocking stat line to us given th elevel of play we witnessed from him on the July circuit. Sadler is a versatile and fast guard who can score or distribute. His change of direction and pace abilities are elite. Sadler’s 3-point shooting has shown continual improvement. Sadler scored a season high 30 points against Exeter. He also posted 27 points vs. Norristown and 26 points vs. OJR. In short, Sadler is a 2024 on the rise.
Zach Ward – 6’5” / Senior / Boyertown / Eastern PA Elite / Combo Guard: Ward owns the lowest points per game average (11 ppg.) on this updated list, but do not let the scoring column fool you. This prospect does it all on the basketball court for Boyertown. Hopefully, college coaches are noticing that fact as well. In his unique point-forward role, Ward scores, facilitates for teammates and works the offensive glass. At the other end, Ward is a plus defender. As a bonus, he can grab a defensive rebound, get downhill quickly, and lead the fast break. Ward’s big scoring nights this winter include 19 points (3 threes) vs. Faith Christian and 13 points in two separate games.
