On Monday, January 16th I attended the 6A Basha Bears hosting the 6A Perry Pumas. It was a rare #1 versus #2 match-up. Both teams came in with one loss and the atmosphere in the gym was off the charts. They literally sent people away and closed the doors.

The game unfortunately got away from Basha as Perry won 84-62 but that feeling is hard to emulate for a regular season basketball game.

Before the big varsity game I checked out the younger players.

Here were the younger standouts

Freshman Game

[player_tooltip player_id='1679272' first='Jack' last='Raslavasky'] Basha

A long and very lean big man who has soft hands and a nice touch around the basket. He uses those hands to catch tougher passes and runs the court well. He will rebound and block shots in his area. Once he fills in, he will be be tougher to defend.

[player_tooltip player_id='1750762' first='Tanner' last='Bell'] Basha

A versatile shooting guard can score and make plays. He is a good passer who woks smartly off the pick and roll game. He can catch and shoot from the three and is a plus rebounder for position. He has a nice touch for put backs and will score on runners and will jump stop and score on hook shots. He has long arms on defense to collect steals or block shots.

[player_tooltip player_id='1482170' first='Aidan' last='Grant'] Basha

A scoring lead guard has a nice handle with his left and right hand. He can catch and shoot from the three point line and rise up off the dribble. He is tough and will take charges. Once he gets rolling from deep, he sets up the rest of his game with ball fakes and bursts by to the basket.

[player_tooltip player_id='1750761' first='Brandt' last='Lewis'] Basha

A big bodied post has huge feet and big hands. He is a strong two-handed rebounder who moves fairly well. The lefty has a nice touch in the paint and can fall away on his defender in the post. He has already improved since I saw him the first week of the AIA season. He could be a varsity role player next year and an eventual starter.

Deshaun Hendrix SF/PF 6'0 2026 Basha

A thick point forward type has a nice handle and a high feel for the game. He is a really good passer for his position and rebounds everything in his area and finds teammates effortlessly.

Tyson Morse CG 5'11 2026 Basha

A quick on quick combo guard is a blur in the open court. He has a super fast first step and he is easily their best athlete on the freshman team. He solely scores on layups but rebounds well for a guard and will throw up the court passes. He is a better soccer player and currently plays hoops to stay in shape. It will be interesting to see if he stays with basketball.

[player_tooltip player_id='1752763' first='Kaiden' last='Rogers'] Perry

A bigger sized wing forward has a nice touch on his three ball and deep range. He has a good feel to make plays. He will score inside but likes to face-up to the three and the ball rotates like it should. He cuts to the basket and plays well off the pick and roll game. He blocks and rebounds at good clip and he can create his own offense.

[player_tooltip player_id='2293077' first='Noah' last='Dayton'] PG 5'10 2026 Perry

A scoring point guard will throw up the court passes. He can pull-up from mid-range off the dribble and has a quick release on his jumper. He had some good moments and is someone to monitor.

Jaden Cunningham CG 5'10 2026 Perry

A long, fairly muscular combo guard can score and make some plays. He can hit the catch three with a quicker release, he gets downhill in traffic and uses the floater. He had a couple give and go plays for buckets. Cunningham and Dayton will be guards to know in the program.

JV Game

[player_tooltip player_id='1351132' first='Shay' last='Yarde'] Perry

A fast defensive pure point guard is a fun watch. He can dime his teammates with nice court vision but his first step is electric. He seems to blow by his defenders almost at will. Then he will score it with good body control. He uses his long arms and very quick hands and feet to stay with his man and can be a ball hawk defender.

[player_tooltip player_id='1351133' first='Dominic' last='Avalos'] Perry (Pictured)

A bigger sized point has high skill level. He can hit the three off the dribble or catch with beautiful form on his shot. He has a good handle and he can drive and kick it. He can give a hard ball fake and float it in. He can play on or off the ball and has a high IQ. He played the last few minutes on varsity.

[player_tooltip player_id='1754270' first='AJ' last='Remo'] Perry

A scoring guard can put up points and defend. He has long arms to collect steals and bothers his opponents. He is a smart passer and will drive and kick. He will score on swooping layups on the break and he can rise up high off the dribble from mid to the three point line.

[player_tooltip player_id='1754233' first='Rowen' last='Pina'] Basha

A bigger sized freshman wing forward. He is long and skinny but he can shoot it. He has an easy stroke to the three point line and he will drive and kick it to a teammate with an unselfish attitude. Plus size for a position is hard to come by and he is definitely one to watch.

[player_tooltip player_id='1754265' first='Kaleb' last='Seow'] Basha

A skilled guard plays on or off the ball. He has deep three point range and he can step back off the dribble on his defender. He is smart in transition and once he fills in, he will only be better.

[player_tooltip player_id='1754263' first='Christian' last='Hernandez'] Basha

A tough scoring lead guard on both sides of the court. He changes speeds well and can get past his defender. He will finish thru contact with his thicker frame. He has nice court vision and sees the play developing quickly. He hits the deep three but prefers to drive.
