December saw several guys step into the spotlight in 1A. Check out these new names in the small school divisions:
Carlos Duran, 5-foot-10 guard, 2025, Solomon:
The departure of Makaen Hastings Makaen Hastings 5'11" | PG Salina South | 2023 KS dealt a blow to the Gorillas. Someone was needed to step into the void and take pressure off veteran guard Spencer Coup Spencer Coup 6'1" | SG Solomon | 2024 State KS . After he gained valuable experience as a freshman, Duran is filling that need. He his providing a valuable 9 points per game, which included 20 against Centre. He is also grabbing 3 rebounds and committing 2 steals per game as the Gorillas number two option.
Dalton Garman, 5-foot-10 guard, 2025, Osborne
Aside from a heartbreaking loss to Thunder Ridge, the Bulldogs are off to an impressive start at 7-1. They returned some nice pieces from a year ago, and Garman is adding to the mix. He recently tallied 25 against St. John’s-Tipton. If Osborne is going to continue climbing the 1A Div. I ranks, it will need a balanced effort from guys like Garman.
Reagan Hartman, 5-foot-11 guard, 2023, Troy:
Hartman is not a new name per se, but he’s in a much bigger role as a senior. Troy standout Jerrit Norris Jerrit Norris 6'4" | PF Troy | 2023 State KS is out with injury, leaving a lot of minutes and production to be picked up by others. After averaging 6 points as a junior, Hartman is racking up 13 points per game to go with 4 rebounds, 4 steals and 2 assists. He converts around the goal and gets a lot of follow-up buckets. The Trojans’ season started rough, but they are adapting to life without Norris and some key graduates. Hartman, also a star quarterback, is leading the way.
Brady Ketzner, 5-foot-10 guard, 2024, Cheylin:
Ketzner is part of a loaded junior class elevating Cheylin into the state rankings in January. After dropping their first game, the Cougars have reeled off seven wins in a row. Ketzner has been consistent, scoring in double figures and hitting multiple threes in nearly every game of the season. He is averaging 16 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 steals. He busted out for 26 against Weskan.
Ryan Stevens, 6-foot-1 forward, 2023, Blue Valley-Randolph:
Stevens isn’t really a newcomer to the varsity scene, but he’s a name you need to know from a school that doesn’t get a lot of publicity. The Rams are climbing up the charts with an 8-1 record. Stevens is a versatile player, battling in the paint, rebound and blocking shots, but also getting out on the perimeter to knock down 3-pointers. He went for 22 points in a recent win against Horton
