MLK Showcase – Manning HS vs Estill HS

The MLK Showcase was being hosted at 2 different locations here in Orangeburg County this past weekend. Let's dive into coverage from this boy's game we took in here in Santee. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong><em>Manning HS 62 Estill HS 52 </em></strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The Manning HS Monarchs and the Estill HS Gators took center stage over at Lake Marion HS. The Monarchs jumped out to a quick lead at cruised to a 17-8 before heading into the halftime break up 34-30. The Monarchs didn't really go into the bench much today and seemed very comfortable playing 7 guys in the rotation for Head Coach Lamont Britt. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong><em>Monarchs Trio Sees Plenty of Playing Time:</em></strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The Monarchs got strong play from UNSIGNED Senior guard <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='865300' first='Justin' last='Daniels']</strong>. Daniels nicknamed "Doobie" came out on fire for the Monarchs by scoring 16 points at the halftime break. He was able to elevate up on his shot from behind the arc on a number of occasions today. Daniels at times looks like he could be working in a half-time entertainment show with his athleticism and ability to play above the rim. Justin is very acrobatic at times with his play and quick hops to the cup. Which direction will Daniels look to play hoops or football in college? Justin played Quarterback for the Monarchs this past season and was (9-3) on the gridiron. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Daniels is averaging 26 ppg, 4.7 rebounds and 3.4 assists this season for the Monarchs (12-4). Justin currently has scored 1,091 career points. Hilton Nicknamed "Jeh" will alter and challenge shots on the defensive end of the floor. Hilton will look to face-up and play on the perimeter on the offensive end. He can knockdown the occasional 15–17-footer when open. Jeh has to keep out of foul trouble at times and stay on the floor for the Monarchs. He finished with 10 points. Hilton has good length and wingspan, and it carries over to the football field as a wide receiver. The jet quick Ceasar gets the ball into the gaps and paint at will it seems. He really likes to play the game in attack mode. Ceasar will keep defenders honest at times with his ability to drop a few mid-range jumpers along the way. Jeffrey is a stat-sheet stuffer with his play from the point guard position. He's averaging 15.6 ppg, 4.5 rebounds, 3.4 steals and 3.1 assists. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong><em>Last Season for the Gators:</em></strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>This looks to be the last season for athletics at Estill HS. The Gators will look to merge with fellow Hampton County school Wade Hampton HS next season. The Gators recently fell to (7-6) on the season with loss today. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong><em>Man in the Middle: </em></strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:image {"id":1750496,"width":256,"height":192,"sizeSlug":"large","linkDestination":"media"} --> <figure class="wp-block-image size-large is-resized"><a href="https://prephoops.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2023/01/89ACAF17-3E5D-401E-843B-0667EE72322C.jpeg"><img src="https://prephoops.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2023/01/89ACAF17-3E5D-401E-843B-0667EE72322C.jpeg?w=1024" alt="" class="wp-image-1750496" width="256" height="192" /></a></figure> <!-- /wp:image --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1363755' first='Kavon' last='Chisolm']</strong> is well put together down in the paint for the Gators. Chisolm is extremely nimble for his size and has incredible footwork. Kavon is an undersized post on the hardwood and DE/T on the football field. He THRIVES on playing the game on contact and really likes to stay in the paint and go to work with his play. Chisolm gets to the foul line on a regular basis and really looks to go to work on both ends of the floor. Kavon has a great set of shoulders to knock defenders around at times. He's currently averaging 13.8 ppg and 8.6 rebounds this season. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong><em>Came Out on Fire and Fizzled: </em></strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>Von Martin</strong> really came out on fire today and pulled a no show in the second half for the Gators. Martin a 5'10 off guard scored 14 points in the first half and remained scoreless in the second frame. Martin showed to have a quick shot release from downtown. Teammate Junior <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1750474' first='Xavier' last='Garvin']</strong> managed to score 10 points in the loss today. Garvin just a junior played Quarterback this season for the Gators (11-2). </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
