It’s no surprise to see top guys like DJ Thomas DJ Thomas 6'2" | PG Liberty | 2024 #19 Nation NV or John Mobley Jr John Mobley Jr 6'0" | PG Wasatch Academy | 2024 State #55 Nation UT pacing the state in scoring. Some other players however have come off the radar to surprise. Here’s a look at some of our Mid-Season Sleeper Bucket Getters.
Young has been one of the most consistent bucket getters in the state, averaging over 22 per game, while scoring in double digits in every game except one. Shoots it off the bounce, and can slash, Young had perhaps his best game against Basic, where he finished with 24.
Haning almost shoots a better percentage the further out he is. The 45% three point shooter has been a devastating scorer, getting to the line, shooting threes and finishing plays. He’s good for nearly 20 per night this season and has been in double figures in every game except one.
If it was Football, Williams would be on my all scoop and score team. He seems to have a knack for being around the ball, snatching it from a defender, then beating everyone down the floor. The dual sports star, has done a little bit of everything for the 2A contender, leading the team in scoring, rebounds, assist and steals.
I’ve got to make a trip up North to watch Snyder in person. The freshman has put together a strong debut campaign, showing the ability to score in a variety of ways. A stretch big with the ability to be a devastating pick and pop weapon. Synder has quietly put up over 18 per game for McQueen.
Was fortunate to get a chance to pop in on Tomlin last week. He’s a sleeper only because he’s playing at the 3A level. Athletic, fluid moving big man, plays hard, and can score without having plays run for him. When he is fed the ball in the post, he’s done a good job of turning over his left shoulder and scoring.
Meadows is fighting to be top dawg in 2A, led by Bevacqua. The veteran, shoots it at a high clip, has a crafty handle, and complete control of the offense. He’s been able to use his skill to lead the team in scoring, averaging over 17 points per game. He’s saved his best performances for the biggest games, scoring 24 against Brophy prep and 19 in the victory over Democracy Prep.
Butler has been as dependable as annual taxes, scoring double digits in every game this year. One of the top 1 v 1 players has put the team on his back in several games, including a brilliant 22 point 13 assist performance in a victory over Bonanza.
