McKennie is an explosive athlete that will dog opposing ball handlers the full length of the floor. He’s a relentless competitor that can overwhelm weaker opponents. McKennie had a slow first half vs. Langston Hughes as the Eagles led by just one point. In the third quarter, he flipped the switch and had nine of his 15 points to ignite the rout, leading to a 66-50 win. Khylan’s play is infectious. The way he flies around the floor and how he gets to the rim with ill intentions. McKennie picked up 3 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals. Schools looking for an energizer bunny with elite athleticism that will run through a brick wall will need to check out Khylan McKennie Khylan McKennie 6’0″ | PG Eagle’s Landing | 2023 State GA .
The hyper athletic guard was able to make his presence felt in different ways, finishing with 8 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 1 steal. He got off to a great start, attacking off the dribble. He finished with a drive on his first hoop then spun his way into a pull-up jumper. His final field goal came on an alley oop dunk. Brown, who fouled out late in the fourth quarter, is really good at finishing through contact. Continuing to extend his shooting range will really help him reach his ceiling.
We may not have made it to overtime without Connor (and the scorebook’s missed free throw). When Staphylaris was injected into the game in the fourth quarter, he completely swung momentum, part of a 17-5 run that actually put Kell ahead 61-59 with 2:33 to play. The sharpshooter drained a pair of threes and scored 8 points in the frame, all while providing harassing defense in the press.
When Parkview needed plays to be made down the stretch, they turned to the five-star safety. While it wasn’t his best game, Matthews found a way to help his team to victory scoring five of his 10 points in the fourth to pair with his 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals. Mike is an elite athlete that can outjump almost anyone. I remember watching him as a freshman and not knowing what position he was, just that he could play all over and positively influence games with his bounce and energy. Matthews muscled in two key putbacks in the fourth quarter as Parkview pulled away from Mt. Vernon for a 68-61 win. Mike has an explosive jolt to the rim and is willing to punch dunks on anyone. He’s a scrappy defender and a true point guard that looks to get others involved.
