Game Report: Mooresville 63, Columbus East 48

<!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>On Tuesday night, I took a trip over to the West side of Indianapolis for a non-conference matchup between the Columbus East Olympians and the Mooresville Pioneers. From the get-go and on paper, Mooresville seemed to be way too much for the Olympians to handle. The length of their starting five is plentiful, led by sophomore <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1278896' first='Anthony' last='Defur']</strong> and seniors <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1556509' first='Wes' last='Reeves']</strong> and <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1556503' first='Nick' last='Patterson']</strong>. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Early on, the Pioneers seemed to get the shots that they were wanting, but they struggled to finish inside or knock down the triple. The Pioneers got off to an early 6-2 lead with a couple of transition buckets, but Columbus East would answer with a triple from <strong>Zane Moravec</strong>. After another three from <strong>Jackson Fischvogt</strong>, the first quarter would end with a score of 8-8.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>In the second quarter, DeFur got going for the Pioneers with a nice finish in the lane as well as a catch and shoot triple. Then hit a pull-up jumper and a finish in transition to extend the Mooresville lead to 8. Columbus East answered with a pair of buckets from their leading scorer, <strong>Ben Sylva</strong>, to cut the lead to 5, but DeFur answered with another triple. Sylva answered again with another triple, but a transition bucket at the buzzer would send us to halftime with Mooresville leading 27-21.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>To start the third quarter, Sylva hit another triple to make it 11 straight points for the senior. The Pioneers would respond well with 9 straight points as they would end the quarter with 23 points. However, a couple of timely buckets by the Olympians kept them in the game. Mooresville would lead 50-38 after three following a Silva jumper at the buzzer.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>The fourth quarter was more of the same with Mooresville scoring it at will in the paint. The Pioneer were able to cruise out to a 20-point lead before winning 63-48. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1278896' first='Anthony' last='Defur']</strong> led the Pioneers with 19 points and 8 rebounds. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1556503' first='Nick' last='Patterson']</strong> added 14 points and 5 rebounds to domiante the paint. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id='1556509' first='Wes' last='Reeves']</strong> also added 11 points, 5 assists, and 4 rebounds. for Columbus East, <strong>Ben Sylva</strong> led the way with 17 points and 6 rebounds.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>With the win, Mooresville improves to over .500 at 8-7. The Pioneers have a big Mid-State Conference game on Friday as they travel to first place Plainfield. Columbus East drops to 1-11 on the season. The Olympians will return home on Saturday night as they host the Jeffersonville Red Devils.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
