If you haven’t already, make sure you take a look at the revamped rankings that feature a Top 150 plus over 100 additional names on our Watch List. In this article we will be highlighting six prospects who made the biggest jumps in our updated rankings. We call them our Stock-Risers. These players have continued working hard at their games and made the necessary improvements to catch our eye and shoot up the Class of 2024 Top 150. This will be Part One of a two part series highlighting our stock-risers.
Trey Buchanan Trey Buchanan 6'0" | PG Westfield | 2024 State IN (Westfield H.S.): Buchanan has really burst onto the scene this season averaging 14.8 points per game as the starting point guard for a 10-3, Top 10 ranked Westfield team. He is a shifty 6’0″ guard that creates his own shot at a high level and can absolutely stroke it from beyond the arc. Just shy of 40% from beyond the arc this season. Anytime you are putting up those type of numbers playing the schedule that the Shamrocks play you know you have a special player. Buchahan jumped 20 spots from #53 to #33 in our rankings update.
Sabien Cain (University H.S.): This strong, physical 6’3″ guard is having a breakout junior season for the University Trailblazers who are currently 11-1 and ranked in the Top 5 of Class 2A. Cain is scoring 21.7 points per game with an incredible 61% field goal percentage as well as making 35 of 69 three-point attempts. He is such an elite finisher due to his size and strength while also possessing the ball skill to create his own shot on the perimeter. Cain rose from #42 to #25 overall in this rankings update.
Taray Howell Taray Howell 5'8" | PG Evansville Bosse | 2024 State IN (Evansville Boss H.S.): If you overlook this prospect because of his size you will be missing out on one of the most talented offensive players in the class. Howell is a dynamic playmaker who can create his own shot off of the bounce, sets up his teammates very well, and is a creative finisher at the rim. The 5’8″ point guard is currently 48-116 (41.4%) from 3-point range while averaging 23.6 points and 4.3 assists per game. He is an absolute bucket-getter. Howell jumped from #34 to #17 in our updated rankings.
Joey Schmitz Joey Schmitz 6'2" | PG Center Grove | 2024 State IN (Center Grove H.S.): Schmitz has jumped in to our Top 25 at #24 rising from #36 overall in the Class of 2024. He is averaging 12.9 points per game for a Center Grove team that is 14-1 and ranked in the Top 10 of Class 4A. Most impressively, Schmitz is accomplishing a rare feat on the offensive end of the floor for the Trojans. The 6’2″ guard is currently in the very exclusive 50%/40%/90% club meaning he has a field goal percentage of 55.2%, three-point percentage of 45.9%, and free throw percentage of 90.2%. Incredible efficient for the second leading scorer on this very good Center Grove team.
Nolan Swan Nolan Swan 5'10" | PG Tipton | 2024 State IN (Tipton H.S.): Sometimes you simply miss on your evaluation of a kid. It was wrong to have this 6’0″ Tipton guard ranked #80 overall in the previous Class of 2024 rankings. However, that is exactly why our staff works so hard to continue seeing all of these kids play and why we update our rankings every few months. Swan is now ranked as the #41 junior in the state. He averages 17.6 points, 4.1 rebounds, 4.3 assists, and 3.6 steals per game for a very good Blue Devils squad.
Hunter Walston Hunter Walston 6'6" | SF Noblesvile | 2024 State IN (Noblesville H.S.): There aren’t many more versatile prospects in Indiana’s junior class than this 6’6″ Noblesville forward. Walston has emerged as a starter for this veteran 11-4 Millers squad that has spent time in the Top 10 of Class 4A this season. He has the ability to handle the ball out on the perimeter as a secondary playmaker, can knock down open three-pointers (40% on the season), and has the size to finish consistently around the basket. Averaging 6.9 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game. He is an excellent passer. Walston broke into our Top 30 at #29 overall in this update after previously being ranked #48.
