Continue ReadingThe Chance Harman Classic returned to SWVA again this year, and as always it is one of my favorite events of the season. The annual event at Floyd County to raise money for cancer research always is a mix of some of the top teams in the western part of the state, as well as some of the top teams nationally in the region. There were a lot of standouts, so we will break them up and we take a look at part two here.
Gavin Cormany Gavin Cormany 6'0" | CG Oak Hill Red | 2025 State VA | 6’3” CG | Radford 2024
Cormany is one of the top scorers in the 540 on one of the top teams in the area too, and he showed that as he made a number of talented shots and led his team to a close win over Botetourt. The 6’3” combo guard showed his ability to create space off the bounce and knock down shots consistently, he knocks down shots from deep off the catch and off the bounce and he can get to the rim and finish consistently. He put up 16 points in their win and was their main ball handler as well.
Elijah Kelly | 6’7” WF | Radford 2024
Kelly is emerging as one of the top prospects in not just SWVA, but is one of the most intriguing prospects in the state in his class with his skillset at his size. He was aggressive early and throughout the game showing his ability to put it on the deck and get to spots where he scored it from multiple levels, he knocked down shots from deep, he rebounded well on both ends of the floor and he showed his ability to make plays off the bounce too. He finished with a 28 point double-double in their win over Botetourt.
Kamren Martin | 6’3” CG | Blue Ridge 2024
While Blue Ridge suffered two losses to Combine and Winston Salem Christian, two of the top teams in North Carolina, they have a star point guard in Martin who is having a great season for the Barons. The 6’3” combo guard has a lot of tools as he’s got great speed and is shifty off the bounce, he can create space and knock down shots off the bounce and he is a dynamic playmaker in transition. He’s a two way impact player who can score it in bunches and makes plays on the defensive end too.
Shanon Simango Shanon Simango 6'6" | PF Blue Ridge | 2024 State #301 Nation VA | 6’7” PF | Blue Ridge 2024
Simango is the type of prospect you love to see as a scout, as he just continues to get better and better every time I watch him play. He’s strong in the paint and is an explosive rebounder and finisher through contact, he plays with a great motor and runs the floor and he brings a toughness to his team that impacts the game in a positive way. He was productive and efficient in both of their games and made highlight plays as well as tough plays consistently.
Oumandre Harris | 6’0” PG | EC Glass 2023
Harris is one of the top players in the Lynchburg area, and the All State guard showed that in a tough loss to Northside where the Hilltoppers played them closer than anyone else this year. Harris has a mix of skill and craft that is easy to love as he shoots the ball well from deep, he’s shifty off the bounce with good quickness and he can make plays for himself and others off the bounce.
Aidan Treacy | 6’1” WG | EC Glass 2023
Treacy is one of the more underrated players in the area, as he is very consistent and does a little bit of everything to help his team. He’s a big time shooter from deep who can get set on the move and knock down shots from deep, he plays with a great motor and makes hustle plays for his team on both ends of the floor and he has great instincts on both ends of the floor.
