DeMarcus transferred into Fairfield and has had to readjust his game. He comes from a program where he had to produce north of a 20pt performance if they were to have a chance to win. With the Tigers, he has two very good guards with the keys to the squad, which are the primary scoring options. He has adjusted to being the third scoring option and what has really been impressive is his commitment to the defensive end of the floor. DeMarcus has a host of physical gifts that he has put on display before that might not be realized on the court at Fairfield until next year, but look for DeMarcus to continue to adjust to his new role of orchestrating and providing point production in spurts.
Terry J. DrakeLet me say this: don’t forget that he can go for 20 or more on any given night, as he is a very prolific and potent scoring guard.
Josiah Jones Josiah Jones 5'10" | CG Fairfield HS | 2024 State AL (5’10/CG/’24/Fairfield HS)

Josiah was one of the most electrifying scorers in the entire tourney. He finished with 25pts in the OT win over Midfield, and he got it done at all levels in a variety of ways. He is a tough finisher at the rim, can knock down the trey-ball, and could be considered at his best when he is in the open court scoring in transition. He is an immediate source of scoring, which is why he is Fairfield’s primary scoring option, and he can fill it up with the best in the state. Josiah will be instrumental as Coach Maurice Ford tries to make a deep playoff run. With the high-level guard play that he has on this squad that is led by the scoring potency of Josiah, I would not want to be the team playing Fairfield once the postseason comes around. They have the pieces to pull the upset.

Armonie Franklin (5’10/PG/’25/Midfield HS)

Armonie is a young guard that fits in well with the high-level guard play that the Patriots are putting on the floor night in and night out. He is going to be a difference-maker going down the stretch because he provides the Patriots with playmaking ability that makes others around him better and provides them with easy scoring opportunities. He is a skilled, smart, reliable ball-handler who can create off the bounce. His ability to get to the paint is a strength of his game, and when he gets in the paint, his vision helps him to spot out the many shooters camped around the arc. He is not a finished product, but he is next in line of the guard play that the Patriots produce.

Kharon Lewis Kharon Lewis 5'9" | CG Woodlawn | 2026 State AL (5’9/CG/’26/Woodlawn HS)

Kharon is a small guard that has had to step into the starting PG spot for the Colonels due to injuries. He has stepped in and has been a solid floor general. He has handles, is seldom rattled, and benefits from having Quad Lynch as his backcourt running mate. Quad helps to alleviate some of the pressure that PGs have to undertake and allows Kharon to play without having to carry the entire load of orchestrating the offense on every possession. There is an intrigue when it comes to Kharon’s game, and as long as he stays in the lab and continues to develop, he is going to be a highly-regarded PG in the Birmingham area.

Carlos Moore Carlos Moore 5'10" | PG Minor | 2024 State AL (6’0/CG/’24/Minor HS)
Carlos was one of the most polished guards in the entire tourney. His all-around game had me locked in every time he touched the rock. He is a crafty ball-handler with a quick burst off the bounce and is very difficult to handle in the open court one-on-one; in other words, he is a one-man press break. As much as opponents tried to pick him up full court, it was not a good idea as he consistently beat his defender and got to his spots, and made plays for himself and his teammates. He is a stout guard that embraced contact off the bounce and never allowed the contact to get him off course. He is in complete control of the Purple Tigers squad and is a trustworthy lead guard with a very good IQ.

Khryston Travis (5’11/PG/’25/Center Point HS)

Khryston is another one of the many young guards that were on display at the #WoodlawnInvitational. He is a pass-first PG getting quality reps at being a floor general. He is quick with the ball in his hands, but he doesn’t totally trust his ability to be a playmaker off the bounce as of yet. He looked as if he was playing to not make a mistake instead of being free to orchestrate the offense. He has the tools to play the lead guard as he takes care of the ball and distributes the rock. He is learning how to play the PG spot, and it is going to be interesting to see him and his backcourt mate Jeremy Chatman Jeremy Chatman 6'1" | SG Shades Valley | 2026 State AL in a couple of years as they will have the reins to the Center Point squad.

Drew Mears (5’10/CG/’26/Briarwood HS)

Drew is a young and solid PG that plays within himself and is in a good position playing alongside William Lloyd. Drew is able to learn from a polished guard while getting valuable varsity reps as a freshman. Despite the freshman mistakes, he is growing as a reliable ball-handler and can help initiate the offense and provide backcourt scoring. Drew’s decision-making is impressive for a freshman guard, and his ability to create shots for others is going to be a highly regarded skill as he continues his journey.
