On the broadcast of the North Linn/Beckman Catholic game that I watched, the North Linn broadcaster called Betenbender a “little jitterbug” and I think that accurately describes Breckyn and his game. He’s small, but he’s an absolute pest on the defensive end who flies all over the floor, gets into passing lanes, moves his feet well, and has incredibly fast hands that he uses to really bother opposing ball-handlers. He had just 2 points in the Lynx win, but he also contributed 3 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals, and his impact on the game defensively went well beyond those pair of steals.

The 6-8 big man is a major revelation for the Saints, raising the already high ceiling for the team that we have ranked #1 in Class 3A. He’s a big body who isn’t asked to do a ton on the offensive end, but he has good hands and solid touch around the bucket when given the opportunity. He’s a really good rim protector with good timing and instincts on the defensive end, largely staying away from fouling when contesting shots, and he’s a good enough passer that the offense can occasionally operate through him on the block. In Xavier’s win over Williamsburg, he had 6 points, 12 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 steals, and 3 blocks, showing his ability to impact the game on both ends of the floor.

Just taking a look at the boxscore of Williamsburg’s loss to Xavier, you wouldn’t think that Cockrell was worth a mention here. He had 0 points, 1 rebound, 1 steal, and 4 fouls. But he’s an intriguing young forward with a ton of raw athleticism that make him an interesting player to watch develop over the next 12-18 months. He has good size at 6-6, a ton of length, and is an explosive leaper who could become an impact defender as he continues to learn the game and find a way to harness his athletic ability.
A 6-2 wing with quick hands on the defensive end, Kluesner made a few nice strips of opposing ball-handlers in the Blazers’ loss to North Linn. He showed good body control around the rim and the ability to finish through contact as well. He finished with 8 points and 4 rebounds.
Andrew Cose

An off-ball guard with a pure stroke from deep, Cose went 2-4 from behind the arc in Northwest’s win over Waukee en route to 9 points on 3-6 shooting. He moves well without the ball in his hands and has a quick release off the catch. He’s taking advantage of some injuries that have elevated him into the starting lineup for the Wolves, showing that his shooting is an extremely valuable asset for his team.
Rogers is an impressive, bouncy athlete who comes off the bench for the Warriors to provide a bit of a spark on both ends of the floor. He had 4 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 block in their narrow loss to Northwest, showing off his raw athleticism with an impressive block and a good motor with his work on the glass.
