If you were just to look at the box score from Kennedy’s win over Cedar Falls, you wouldn’t think much of Gerdes, a 6-1 junior combo guard. But his impact on the game goes well beyond the single assist that he dished out in the contest. He’s a strong on-ball defender who moves his feet well and has quick hands, he keeps the ball moving on the offensive end, and he has shown throughout the Cougars other games that he can knock down shots when the opportunity presents itself. He’s a capable ball-handler, passer, and defender who makes winning plays.

A 6-1 wing, Harberts had a huge game off the bench for the Wolfpack in their win over West Harrison, going for 17 points on 8-9 shooting (1-1 3P), 3 rebounds, an assist, and a block. An athletic, long wing with a quick first step, he uses his quickness and length to get to the rim for finishes, and he does a good job absorbing and finishing through contact around the bucket. He has a high release on his jumper and showed a strong mid-range game, getting to his spots off the bounce, and he can provide some versatility on the defensive end with his length and quickness.
Cash Schoolen
Cash Schoolen
A bouncy 6-3 combo forward, Schoolen had 6 points on 1-6 shooting (4-5 FT), 2 rebounds, and 2 blocks in the Hawks loss to Indianola. He moves well without the ball in his hands, cutting to the rim and getting opportunities from his guards with his off-ball movement. He’s a versatile, athletic defender with the length and athleticism to defend on the perimeter, and the size and bounce to protect the paint as a shot blocker.
Devon Akers
Devon Akers
A mobile 6-6 big man with good hands, Akers provides a lot of value as a rebounder on both ends of the floor. He does a good job making strong contact on his box outs, and high points the ball. He had 2 points and 8 rebounds in the loss to Indianola, and while he didn’t record an assist, he did show some good passing instincts and skills out of the low post. The offense can occasionally flow through him.
An aggressive scoring wing, Trudo was impressive in Van Meter’s win over Madrid, scoring 17 points on 7-15 shooting (2-6 3P, 1-1 FT), 7 rebounds, 2 assists, and a steal. He has good size at 6-5 and comes off the bench with a real scorer’s mentality, looking to attack the rim at every opportunity. He’s tremendous on the offensive glass, with 5 of his 7 rebounds coming on that end of the floor, and he showed himself to be a capable perimeter shooting threat.
A 6-2 power forward with a strong build, Braun had 6 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 steals in the Bulldogs win over Madrid off the bench. He’s a good team defender who rotates well, and his quick rotations led to a few of his steals, getting into position quickly and catching the opposing ball-handler or passer off guard. He has great strength that he uses to power through contact around the rim as well as rebound effectively on both ends of the floor.
