Carter Newhouse
Newhouse is tiny, but don’t let his size fool you, he’s one tough guard who does a ton of little things for a very successful Kennedy team. In the Cougars win over Cedar Falls, he finished with 8 points (3-4 FG, 2-3 3P), 2 rebounds, an assist, and a steal, and his defensive presence was much larger than that one steal would indicate. He’s a tenacious on-ball defender who moves his feet really well and has quick hands that he uses to make life uncomfortable for opposing ball-handlers. He’s the type of player who is going to get on the floor for loose balls, keep the ball moving on offense, and knock down open shots when they’re presented.
Maddox Ward
Maddox Ward
Ward is another small but pesky on-ball defender who can knock down shots, scoring 6 points on 2-5 shooting from the arc to go with 3 steals in the Hawks loss to Indianola. He moves his feet really well on the defensive end and has quick hands. He’s a good shooter off the catch with a quick release and plenty of range. Like Newhouse, he’s a player who is going to do a little bit of everything for his team.
Brady Blake
Brady Blake
Blake is a versatile defender who has the size and length to defend bigger bodies, and the quickness and length to hold his own against quick guards. He took shots at some of Ankeny’s best offensive weapons in the Indians win, and was really solid against each of them. Offensively, he’s a role player for his team, but he showed that he can put the ball on the floor and get to the rim for a tough finish, and he’ll contribute on the glass on both ends of the floor.
Michael Banks
Michael Banks
A strong guard who can get to the rim and finish, Banks had 7 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists in Van Meter’s win over Madrid. He’s a good ball-handler who also competes hard on the glass on both ends of the floor. His defensive rebound followed by going coast-to-coast for a finish plus the foul was one of the highlights of the game for the Bulldogs, showing his ability to lead the break and take advantage of nobody stopping the ball, then using his physical frame to finish through hard contact.
