Tate Heidemann
Heidemann was a solid producer across the board for Carlisle in their season-opening loss to Des Moines Christian, finishing with 10 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, and 3 steals. He does a great job getting up into passing lanes and denying the pass, and he also has a knack for jumping them and turning his defense into quick and easy offense. He showed that he can knock down open looks from the arc, but he’s certainly at his best when he’s attacking the rim, either in transition or in the halfcourt setting.
Tate Platte
Tate Platte
Platte struggled to finish around the bucket in the Lions’ win, shooting just 4-15 from the floor, but he was relentless on the glass, pulling down 14 rebounds (6 offensive) to go with 15 points. He has a non-stop motor, great hands, and does a great job making strong contact on his boxouts and high-pointing the ball on rebounds. He can provide a bit of versatility on the defensive end, a good enough athlete to defend on the perimeter, and powerful enough to mix it up in the paint. He was also really clutch from the free-throw line, knocking down 7 of 8 attempts from the charity stripe, all in the fourth quarter or overtime.
Karson Elwood
Karson Elwood
A 6-2 lead guard with some good size, Elwood only scored 2 points in the Cardinals loss to Heelan, but he added 4 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals as well. He handles the ball well and is a really good passer who sees the floor well. He looks to get his teammates involved first and foremost, and defensively he does a good job moving his feet and using active hands to create a bit of chaos. The Cardinals need another reliable ball-handler in their backcourt, and Elwood looks like he might be that player.

A power wing with big, broad shoulders, Olson had 14 points on 6-11 shooting in the Crusaders’ win over Treynor last week. He uses his physicality to power through contact around the bucket for finishes, and he does a good job moving without the ball in his hands, taking advantage of sleepy defenders with backdoor cuts. He runs the floor hard and fills lanes correctly, taking advantage of willing passers as teammates who put him in position to score. He’s a good enough athlete to defend on the perimeter and powerful enough to step down into the paint and defend against some bigger bodies as well.
