The 10th region looks tough:
Defending state champion GRC still looks head and shoulders above every other team in the region but the region as a whole looks much improved. Mason County knocked off Lyon County over the weekend. Harrison County and Bracken County both beat 5th region favorite Central Hardin over the weekend. Top to bottom, the 10th looks like a top 5 region in the state this season.
Covington Catholic is the HEAVY favorite in the 9th
A lot of unknowns for a Colonels team that graduated a lot of talent but they came out and steamrolled 3 teams to start the season as they knocked off Simon Kenton, Great Crossing and Dunbar by double figures and mostly coasted through the 4th quarter in all three games. Evan Ipsaro Evan Ipsaro 5'11" | PG Covington Catholic | 2023 State KY is obviously very good but the McGillis brothers are nice complimentary pieces and Brady Hussey Brady Hussey 6'2" | CG Covington Catholic | 2024 State KY is off to a good start after waiting for his shot on JV the last two years.
DeSales is playing a TOUGH opening schedule
Starting your week with Trinity, Male, Ballard and Huntington Prep is a bold move but facing all 4 in the span of 6 days is borderline insanity. After losing 2 kids to transfer 2 weeks ago and having several ineligible imports, the Colts played that entire stretch with only 7 players seeing the court. Brady Cummins Brady Cummins 6'1" | PG DeSales | 2024 State KY is off to a hot start and the Gibson brothers form one of the best frontcourt duos in the state. Going 2-2 against those 4 opponents should be considered a big positive.
The Transfer Window Never Closes
Ballard’s Gabe Sisk left for Prolific Prep this fall and is already back in Louisville. He’s even been ruled eligible and hit the court for the Bruins on Friday night. Jordan Bender Jordan Bender 6'6" | PF Fern Creek | 2026 State KY has moved from DeSales to Ballard but has yet to suit up for Ballard. DeSales is still waiting on an eligibility decision about Julian Bunton. Lots of movement and eligibility decisions still to come and they could all effect the regional title races.
