Tyrus Rathan-Mayes- Langham Creek High School (2025)
Rathan Mayes was slept on heavily in Langham Creek’s game against Kingwood during the break as he absolutely shredded the defense, scoring a majority of his teams points. Tyrus showed complete domination behind the arc, hitting almost all of his three pointers even over the outstretched hands of the defense. I saw him hit at least 6 three pointers in rhythm, showing his ability to run the fastbreak effectively and get to his spot for an open shot. Mayes also was a major ballhandler for his team on offense and showed a variety of dribble moves to beat his defender to the rim. Rathan-Mayes has the potential to be one of the most underrated players in his district this year as well as the city of Houston.
John Clark- Klein Cain High School (2025)
John Clark was a force to be reckoned with in his team’s contest against Kingwood Park, using his size and strength to his advantage in the post. He was able to easily gain position against his matchup and finish over the contact, gifting him several free throws throughout the game which he often converted. Clark shows incredible quickness for his build and is able to run the fastbreak effectively, while also being a very efficient defender under the basket. If Clark develops a consistent outside three pointer, he will be one of the best underclassmen post players in the city.
Davion Sanford- Kingwood Park High School (2024)
Sanford showed his ability to be one of the more all around guards for his Kingwood Park squad in two tough games against scrappy Klein Cain and Willis teams. Davion is very effective using his shiftiness to glide past his defender to the basket and finish with a strong layup or spotting up patiently behind the arc for an open long range jumper. Sanford is also a very capable defender, notching several steals in both contests and consistently being able to deny ball his matchup from getting to the basket or scoring the rock.
Bryce Deason- Humble High School (2024)
Bryce was the lone bright spot for his Wildcats team in a blowout loss to Memorial High School but showed promise when running the offense as the primary playmaker for his squad. Deason displayed quickness and great court awareness on the pick and roll as the passer and also was able to get to the basket and draw fouls often. Bryce will continue to run the point guard slot for Humble this year as they attempt to keep pace in a tough district.
