Last night was the return of a good ole Friday night BCL/MIAA matchup between John Carroll and Mount Carmel. The two have been staples in the Baltimore area over the years as strong programs and while John Carroll boasts a young roster, they showed plenty of fight despite the final score favoring Mount Carmel by a count of 89-68. The win improves Mount Carmel to 4-0 overall while John Carroll falls to 2-2.

Let's take a look at some takeaways

The [player_tooltip player_id='1482974' first='Omarion' last='Reid'] train

Reid continues to come into his own and cement himself as one of the most productive bigs in the BCL/MIAA. The 6'6 forward used his body to overpower anyone John Carroll put in front of him as he finished with a game-high 24 points. He was the beneficiary of playing behind the John Carroll press and his teammates did a great job of finding him around the rim for easy bunnies. Reid was also a consistent presence on the defensive glass.

Aidan Able impresses

John Carroll's coaching staff has always allowed their guys to play with plenty of freedom. It allows their players to play relaxed and not second guess themselves. Last night was no different and in this fast-paced contest, plenty of three's were hoisted. Freshman guard Aidan Able wasn't shy about getting them up and the 6'3 guard buried four of them on his way to a team-high 16 points. He has an unwavering confidence that you don't see in many freshman and with his shooting mechanics, we could see more explosive scoring numbers from him as the season progresses.

Mount Carmel's stable

The Cougars can throw plenty of different lineups that will determine what looks opposing teams get defensively. It has always been a guard's league and Mount Carmel is supplied with tough, pesky ones led by 2024 [player_tooltip player_id='1127307' first='Andrew' last='Dixon']. Dixon finished with 18 points and in his usual fashion, found his way to the paint after breaking down his defender and finished with routine floaters. 2025 [player_tooltip player_id='1370512' first='Mario' last='Tatum'] keeps the defense honest with his ability to knock down shots from three off the catch or put the ball on the deck, get to the rim and finish through contact. Tatum scored 11 points in the win. 2025 [player_tooltip player_id='1494081' first='Rodney' last='Scott'] pushes the tempo and is always looking to set up others in transition. Defensively, Scott and Dixon cause havoc with traps and back taps that cause turnovers. 2023 Drazen Sinigoj did what he does best, which is tee off from beyond the arc. The 6'3 senior connected on three, a couple of which came a couple of feet behind the line.

Value of [player_tooltip player_id='1579094' first='Allen' last='Mordi']

It was hard not to notice Mordi's presence at both ends of the floor and it really highlighted how much he has to offer as a prospect. The 6'5 London native is a versatile piece defensively who can legitimately guard multiple positions. He was outstanding in the rebounding department and pursued over a handful that were out of his area. On two separate occasions throughout this game, Mordi had a sequence where he made a huge block around the rim and proceeded to knock down a three at the other end. I caught up with Mordi after the win and will have an article releasing on him going in-depth with his future plans, but he would be a name I would monitor closely as a LM-MM program.
