On Friday night, I went to Terre Haute North for a big 4A Conference Indiana matchup between Terre Haute North and Bloomington South. There was a lot of Division III talent on display in this highly defensive battle. Here is a recap of the game.

In the first quarter, Bloomington South got off to an early 5-0 lead, but Terre Haute fought back with a couple of buckets and the foul. [player_tooltip player_id='1236653' first='Aiden' last='Schmitz'] picked up his second foul with 3 minutes remaining in the first quarter which was a big loss for the Panthers. Ethan Scott would hit a three late in the half to give the Patriots a 10-7 lead after one.

In the second quarter, both teams struggled to put the ball in the bucket with just one bucket each in the first five minutes. Terre Haute North was able to put a run together late thanks to a couple of offensive rebounds and putbacks by [player_tooltip player_id='1049186' first='Bryson' last='Carpenter'] and Scott. Scott would lead all scorers with 6 points at the half as the Patriots led 17-11

In the third quarter, Schmitz set the tone early with a quick triple to cut the lead to 3 in his first minutes since early in the first half. However, the Patriots would answer with a 6-0 run to give the Patriots their biggest lead of the game at 25-16.

In the fourth quarter, Bloomington South started quick with a nice drive by [player_tooltip player_id='1160271' first='Zach' last='Sims'] and an and-one finish by [player_tooltip player_id='1297119' first='Tucker' last='Simpson'] to cut the lead to 3. The game would continue to be back and forth with both teams getting buckets, but the Panthers couldn't get the lead below 3. They had their chances after cutting the lead to 34-31, but the Panthers turned the ball over on three straight possessions. [player_tooltip player_id='1557086' first='Isaac' last='Ross'] then proceeded to ice the game going 6-6 at the free throw line in the final minute as Terre Haute North would take home the win 40-31.

Scott would lead the way for both teams with 11 points. Chris Owens would add seven points and Ross and Carpenter would each add 6. For Bloomington South, Simpson was the sparkplug in the second half with 9 points. [player_tooltip player_id='1295381' first='Gavin' last='Wisley'] added 6 points and 6 rebounds, and Schmitz was held to just 5 points on 2-6 shooting. Neither team shot it well from the outside with Terre Haute North going 2-11 and Bloomington South going 1-13. However, the Patriots had the advantage with their 9 steals as they forced 16 turnovers while committing just 8.

Terre Haute North improves to 3-3 with 3 straight wins after falling to 1A #1 Evansville Christian, 3A #2 North Daviess, and Mooresville. The Patriots have a road game with Plainfield before host the Wabash Valley Classic. Bloomington South falls to 3-3 with one-point losses to New Albany and Southport earlier this season. The Panthers have home games with Floyd Central and Rock Creek before playing at the Richmond Holiday Tournament.
