South Lyon East featured a big 3 that put a lot of pressure on Pinckney on both ends of the floor. South Lyon East won the game 76-47. I also watched Saline travel to Ann Arbor Huron. This was a highly competitive game that featured some top notch talent. The River Rats got off to a fast start and held the lead, knocking off Saline by a score of 63-56. Let’s look at some players that were impressive in those 2 games.
Jordan Newbill
Jordan Newbill
Newbill was terrific against Pinckney. If he plays like this consistently, he deserves to be ranked at the next prospect rankings update. He had 14 points on the night. Newbill cut hard to the rim and was able to finish. He also showed 3 point range from the corner. Newbill was an athletic defender that got a steal from stepping in the passing lane and also got up off the ground and blocked a shot.
Johnny Combs
Johnny Combs
Combs was impressive for the Pinckney Pirates. If my numbers add up correctly, he led his team with 12 points. He scored with strong hands off the catch on a pass from his teammate. Combs also showed that he could get creative and manufacture his own look at the rim with a pretty turnaround jumper. He showed some toughness on defense when stepped in front of an opponent driving the lane and drew a charge. Combs willingness to do the dirty work could lead to some wins this season.
Moore showed some star power in Ann Arbor Huron’s hard fought win against Saline. He was ultra quick with and without the basketball in his hands. He had a few very athletic take to the rim that he finished in traffic, showing strength and control at the rim. Moore was able drive the lane, draw contact, and deliver from the free throw line. He was especially tough when he got downhill going to his right. Moore will be a matchup nightmare in the SEC Red this season.
I’m going to be writing a lot this year about this star freshman. Sanderson finished with a game high 22 points, following up his 20 point performance in his first high school basketball game. The Hornets got off to a slow start, but stayed just close enough for Sanderson to almost work his magic in the 4th quarter. He put it in another gear in the final quarter, scoring from 3 point range, at the rim, and from the free throw line. Sanderson and Macari Moore Macari Moore 6’2″ | PG Ann Arbor Huron | 2025 State MI could match up a couple more times this season, with a lot on the line.
Fannon had 22 points in the win, but his biggest influence may have come on the other end of the floor. He picked up steals early and often in the game and was very active on the glass, both picking up rebounds and tipping it to keep it alive. Fannon made life difficult for Pinckney scorers all night. Fannon scored from all 3 levels burying a deep triple, flaunting a pretty scoop and score at the rim and hitting a contested mid range jumper.
