We take a deep dive into last nights game between Alta and Brighton that was intense and had some solid play from multiple next level prospects.

#1 Surprise Talent at Brighton

At about 6'6 Owen was the best player last night for Brighton. After Alta pulled it's starters with about 3:00 minutes or so to go he was pulled as well and he had 18 points and was rebounding like crazy. He does play PF/C for his high school team but he is a SF at the next level. None of his points were in garbage time and he was just playing with a really high motor. He kept Brighton close with his hustle and activity on the glass and he was just leaving it all on the floor, Nice small school prospect that plays hard.

#2 Best Team in 5A

Although there are a few teams like Woods Cross, Lehi, Timpview and Olympus that have some great play and good players it is hard to believe that if Alta is playing at the level they payed last night they could be beat, but they are teenagers trying to win all the time is just hard for young players. Alta was playing a tough active zone and they made adjustments leaving the high post open and forcing Brighton to take jumpers they did not want to take. They played a solid straight up man and it was good but made some adjustments where they switched at times that confused Brighton. Alta has two solid bigs that rebound and get the ball up the floor quickly.

#3 Best Player on the Floor

The stat sheet does not tell the entire story but although Jaxon had multiple players score more points than him on his team and on the other team he was by far the best prospect for the next level on the floor. Jaxon is a 6'9 wing/guard that will stop and pop three-pointers. He can take the ball off the bounce and make some agile moves to get some great looks. Jaxon had 4 blocks and probably double digit rebounds. What made him even more valuable was the fact that he has elite vision off of rebounds that allowed him to get that ball up the floor to his guards that scored quickly or that allowed the defense to collapse and get his shooters great looks. Play of the game was Jaxon's two handed trail dunk on a Brighton defender. This kid has major talent.

#4 Sleeper Prospect

Nash is somewhat off the radar but last night he really made some plays that should garner him some next level attention. He is a small school next level prospect, like maybe an NWAC school or D3, D2, but Nash has next level ability. He has a focused demeanor and he is out there looking to attack. He has a good tight handle as he keeps his dribble low. He changes speeds and directions quickly and under control and he can sling the long ball. He release is a bit different and he might have to step out a little further at the next level because his release is low but that sucker goes in. He probably shot 70% from the field last night. Someone needs to lock this 2023 prospect up, he might be smaller but he is athletic and he can defend.

#5 Young and Developing

John had a tough task of defending [player_tooltip player_id='1057035' first='Ace' last='Reiser'] and even [player_tooltip player_id='1511464' first='Nash' last='Hinck'] at times and he did a decent job. He is a willing defender that is developing a motor on the defensive end of the ball. He crashes the boards and does the little things that help him standout. On offense he has some good moves to the rim. With not a lot of space in the paint he does his best. John needs to shoot the ball more as he does have a decent outside jumper. Really like this young 2025 prospect.
