Conference Commentary

Top Ten in State: East Ridge, Stillwater

East Ridge has won the league three of the last four seasons and they have the talent to earn another title. They have ball handlers, shooters, a true big with potential, hard working role talent, and wings/forwards in surplus. The Raptors are a top team in state. Then we go Stillwater. Stillwater? Yes they were .500 last season but they have one of the elite players in the state, they return a number of their top guys, and the Ponies have added a few transfers that will make them even better.

Top Ten in State Potential: White Bear Lake

White Bear Lake has guards, talent, and size. Jack Janicki Jack Janicki 6'4" | SG White Bear Lake | 2023 State #277 Nation MN is a top five player in the state and Wyatt Hawks Wyatt Hawks 6'7" | C White Bear Lake | 2023 State MN emerged this summer as one of the state’s better bigs. With other talent coming back WBL is in position for a top ten spot. The one issue is that Janicki was injured recently and it sounds like he won’t be ready to go at the start of the year.

Compete with Most: Mounds View, Cretin Derham-Hall, Forest Lake, Woodbury, Roseville, Irondale

This is a big list. Irondale lost a lot but they proved that they can be good and have good coaching. Roseville is a lot better than I though based on what I saw this fall, Woodbury has a chance to take a nice step forwards as does Forest Lake, and Mounds View should once again be a few games over the .500 mark. CDH has talent, they have tradition, and they are always the team to knock off in 4AAAA based on how much section and state success they have had. They just have a lot of new bodies to get on the floor and this team four star Tre Holloman isn’t on the floor to push them.

Rebuilding: Park of Cottage Grove

The Wolfpack have went through a lot of changes and with so many new things going on it would fall into the rebuild category.
