Conference Commentary
Top Contenders: Liberty Classical, Avail Academy, Math & Science Academy
Liberty Classical has three starters back including their two leading scorers from a 20 plus win team. They have big expectations this year and with Trent Verbeek and Anton Romportl returning as seniors, they should be the favorite. Avail Academy losses their best two players but they do have half of their rotation back including Zachariah Schaap who should be a 20 point per game guy. Math & Science Academy lost most of their line-up but has the new version of “Shaq of the MAC” as Josh Balami will stuff stat sheets and have a monster season. He will just need some help as all other starters graduated.
Compete with Most: Community of Peace, Hmong Academy, Lakes International Language Academy
Community of Peace returns most of their line-up from last year, but they also struggled pretty bad last year. They should improve on their five wins with experience back, but how much? As for Hmong Academy they return three starters and have the best freshman in the league so we think they can step forward and win a few more than five games. Solid junior group at Lakes International Language Academy should have them competitive in the middle of the league.
Rebuilding: Academy for Sciences and Agriculture, Groves Academy
Academy for Sciences and Agriculture played 13 games last season and won three of them. They have no seniors this season – at least none from last year’s roster – and they don’t have much experience. As for Groves Academy, a one win team in the league last year, I can’t tell at all who is back and who is gone. There is no research that I have been able to do to figure it out.
