Below is a preview of seven players (Presented in alphabetical order.) who we consider the front runners to win the 2022-23 Suburban One League Player of the Year.

[player_tooltip player_id='1188211' first='Qudire' last='Bennett'] – 6'4″/ Senior / Plymouth Whitemarsh / L&L Running Rebels / Wing: In 2021-22 Bennett recorded 18 points per game while being double and at times triple teamed. With the addition of [player_tooltip player_id='1123895' first='Chase' last='Coleman'], plus the emergence of [player_tooltip player_id='1116013' first='Jaden' last='Colzie'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1589161' first='Jahseir' last='Sayles'], this season opponents will be forced to guard all five players for “P-Dub”. Thus Bennett, an elite three level scoring machine, will abuse one on one matchups and have a monumental senior season. Bennett is the favorite to take home POY honors. Why College coaches are sleeping on Bennett is a mystery to us.

DJ Cerisier – 6'1” / Senior / Upper Dublin / Total Skills / Combo Guard: Cerisier is an astonishing 3-sport athlete who is also a DI football recruit and a track standout for UD. On the hoops court, Cerisier (12 ppg. in 2021-22) uses his speed and change of direction abilities to thrive in transition. He also drains threes of every variety. Off the bounce Cerisier can score the rock or execute drive and kick plays. Additionally, he is a plus defensive presence who turns steals/deflections into points.

[player_tooltip player_id='1121736' first='Sean' last='Curley'] – 6'0” / Senior / Neshaminy / Philly Pride Bucks / Shooting Guard: This silky-smooth shooter has been on our radar for some time. Curley's jumper is money from the baseline to the mid-range to the arc (40% on threes last season). He possesses textbook mechanics, logo range and a quick trigger, so opponents need to pick him up at half court. In summer 2022 Curley displayed improved dribble-drive skills making him a more well-rounded scorer. Curley (13 ppg. in 2021-22) is sneaky athletic, owns a long wingspan and a high basketball IQ.

[player_tooltip player_id='1379428' first='Josiah' last='Hutson'] – 5'8” / Sophomore / Cheltenham / Hunting Park Warriors / Point Guard: Hutson is a long shot POY candidate but hear us out. Cheltenham graduated their top two scorers from 2021-22, so Huston will be the primary ball handler and No. 1 option this winter. That is fine because Hutson is a scoring point guard. His tremendous quickness and filthy handles get hm to the rim with ease. His jumper is automatic, and Hutson will not hesitate to pull up from deep behind the arc. Last Season Hutson hit for 11 ppg.; posted several 20 spots; had multiple games of 4+ threes and was a 3rd Team All-Area selection.

[player_tooltip player_id='1379443' first='Tyler' last='Meinel'] – 6'5” / Senior / CB South / Total Skills / Small Forward: A three-year varsity impact player, Meinel (12 ppg. in 2021-22) is a scoring threat from all 3-levels. A watery jumper and the height to shoot over defenders makes Meinel difficult to guard. On defense, Meinel is quick and anticipates well, which produces numerous steals. Meniel boosted his stock this summer by posting an impressive July circuit. Included in that stretch of outstanding play was the Big Shots-Philly Pride event where he averaged 16 points per run and was named to the all-tournament team.

[player_tooltip player_id='1130829' first='Kirby' last='Mooney'] – 6'3” / Junior / William Tennent / PA Royals / Combo Guard: Mooney (17 ppg. in 2021-22) has always been an elite slasher who can finish at the rim with either hand. But the continued development of his jump shot into a highly effective weapon in the mid-range and from the 3-point line, has taken Mooney's game to another level. He also possesses surprising quickness and hops, so when he attacks the cup Mooney will flush on an opponent's head. Mooney posted a tremendous July circuit (19 ppg. & 6 rpg.; 35% on threes), and we expect his stellar play to continue this winter.

Nate Townsend – 6'2” / Junior / Neshaminy / Mt. Pleasant Bulldogs / Combo Guard: This past spring/summer Townsend (pic above) was the area's Class of 2024 breakout star. His stellar play has continued during recent fall ball events. So, we expect him to have a ridiculous junior campaign. This versatile prospect can play a physical brand of guard or use his speed and tight dribbles to blow past a defender. Additionally, Townsend (10 ppg. in 2021-22) is a highly skilled mid-range player. He also does solid work on the boards. Once he has secured a rebound, Townsend can push the fast break to score or distribute
