Expert Analysis
Ari Rosenfeld | Prep Hoops Scout
Despite a buzzer-beating loss, Hutson put together a dynamic individual performance while carrying his Garden State squad for much of the game. A jitterbug with the ball in his hands, he was difficult to stay in front of while dancing to his spots offensively. Hutson established himself early on as a pullup threat from beyond the arc, dragging the defense out to be able to capitalize with downhill attacks off the bounce. While known as more of a scorer, he also impressed with some advanced passing reads to spoonfeed teammates for easy looks. Continuing to mature as a true lead guard will give Hutson a chance to earn scholarship-level attention heading into the latter portion of the season.

Hutson is a lead guard who does a good job of navigating to different spots on the floor with the ball in his hands. He is an aggressive paint toucher. He is a frequent customer at the foul line. His quick first step allows him to beat most defenders. Huston finds his open teammates and can get them to rock for scoring chances of their own. He uses his angles well when on the attack. He would be a great pickup at the small college level.

This 1,000+ point scorer is a speedy guard with elusive handles who somehow remains uncommitted. If college coaches watch Huston, they will love his ability to change directions at full speed while remaining under control. Hutson excels at maintaining his dribble under tenacious defensive pressure. Once Hutson gets into the paint, he can unleash a floater, score off two feet or convert on lay-ins. He can also get into the lane and then deliver a kick out to an open shooter or drop a pass to the dunker spot. As a primary ball handler, Hutson’s decision making is nearly flawless. Hutson is an underrated 3-point shooter as well.

This speedy and wiry point guard destroyed opponents of the dribble on Saturday. Hutson (1,000+ point scorer) used his quick change of direction moves to get into the lane for floaters and lay-ins. His ability to change directions multiple times in tight spaces is unique. Hutson’s stop-n-pop game is elite too. He also attacked paint and then executed drop passes and kick outs to open teammates. When defenders attempted to keep Hutson out of the lane by sagging off him, Hutson drilled threes. 2024-25 should be a monster season for Hutson.
