Colonia and South Brunswick also tend to get attention, but today we focus on a host of players who are set for strong seasons as leaders of their high school teams.
Jonathan Carman| 6’5” | F | Piscataway
The athletic 6’5” forward had a breakout season for the Chiefs this past winter. He can handle the ball, shoot from range and attacks the basket well with his strong frame. He averaged 14&9 as a junior and had several impressive performances, including back-to-back games vs Saint Joes(20&8, 18&11), South Brunswick(18&13) and Immaculata(21&11).
Evan Benson| 5’10” | G | Wardlaw Hartridge
Players in the Gold Division are often overlooked by colleges because the schools are the smallest in the GMC but there are several teams that are now regularly producing college level talent. Benson had a great junior year for Wardlaw, averaging 16.4PPG. Good ballhandler who can create his own shot. Crafty on the break and runs the break right to the foul line. He had 25 vs Carteret and 23 vs Timothy Christian, which was his top performance of the season. Coming from a highly respected academic HS like Wardlaw, a host of D3 programs should be interested in watching Benson into his senior year.
Brandon Gasiewski| 6’1” | G | South Amboy
South Amboy is another Gold Division school that has produced a wealth of talent over its history, specifically during the time when George Krzyzanowski was head coach. Gasiewski is long and lean. He can light it up from beyond the three point line. Does the little things well. Hit 62 threes as a junior and went for 27 against Wardlaw. Like the other South Amboy players of note before him, he’d be a good fit at a D3 program. Also plays baseball.
Jalen Fleming Jalen Fleming 6'4" | SF Timothy Christian | 2025 State NJ | 6’2” | G | Timothy Christian 2025
TCS has had a number of college players pass through its doors throughout its existence as an “Under The Radar” school in Middlesex County. Fleming will be the next one. He’s got a very mature frame for a freshman and uses that to his advantage when he’s getting out in transition or attacking the rim. A big bodied slasher who may grow into more of a forward player depending on his height trajectory. He had 33 vs a good Bound Brook team. Nearly 400 pts as a freshman. He’s a player that colleges should be keeping an eye on already—especially Christian schools, given the atmosphere at TCA.
Jaeden Jones Jaeden Jones 6'0" | PG Colonia | 2024 State NJ | 5’11” | G | Colonia 2024
A talented multi-sport athlete who will be a sought after football recruit. Jones uses that athleticism to his advantage on the hardwood. He’s active on defense, uses his d-back skills to read passes on the floor as well, pushes it in transition and is unafraid of contact around the rim. Dished out 10 assists in a state playoff win over Mendham and had 12 points in the season ending loss to Ramapo. Should be poised for a breakout junior campaign on an always tough Colonia squad.
