Here is a look at the top junior small and power forwards in class 5A. i think all these guys are outstanding players and team leaders. They all are going to be big in leading there teams to the state playoffs this coming season.
6’4″ New Iberia
Wayne, was a all-state honorable mention selection last season. He is one the most versatile players in the state . He is listed as a small forward . Wayne can play guard or power forward in the paint. He is a good outside shooter and can also score on the block. Defensively, he can guard all 5 positions which makes him a very talented player. He will be a great college player. New Iberia lost in the quarterfinals last season.
6’4″ Liberty Magnet
Jaylen, is dynamic player who can get to the rim off the dribble at will. He is listed as a small forward but can play multiple positions . He is very athletic and tuff to guard . He is a great defender and scores in transition off steals. I look for him to have really big season this year. Liberty lost is the division 2 championship last season.
Allen, is one of my favorite power forwards in the state. He has very soft hands around the rim and a nice looking 3 point shot. He controls the paint area and is a very good passer from the low post. He rebounds the basketball well and plays good defense. I think Ponchatoula will be a team to watch this season. They have a very good backcourt to go with Graves.
6’6″ St. Augustine
Hubert, is a terrific 2 sport athlete. He was honorable all-district last season. He has multiple division 1 football offers as a tight end . Hubert can shoot the 3 point shot and take people off the dribble from his power forward position. He also can dominate on the low block with is size and great athleticism 6’4″ 235lbs.
Jeremiah , in my opinion is one of the best big man in the state. He has offers from Alabama ,New Mexico State and Northwestern State. He has the size and offensive skill set to excel at the college level. He is a great 3 point shooter and can completely dominate in the post area .He is 6’9″ and a rim protector on defense. Southwood lost in the 1st round of the playoffs last season. They could be in for a deeper run this year.
