SubscribeThe Prep Hoops Michigan Freshman Showcase had a lot of talent spread across 10 teams. Many of these athletes had never played or didn’t have much experience playing with their teammates. There were still a lot of duos on teams that played very well together. Let’s look at some of these 1-2 punches at the Freshman Showcase.
Take a look at my previous coverage of the 2022 Prep Hoops Michigan Freshman Showcase below.
TEAM 1
Johnson provided some perimeter scoring, outside shooting, and the ability to drive and dish. He was a terrific guard that could set the table for his teammates.
Eklund was a great running mate for Johnson. His versatility and ability to score as a post player or on the perimeter meshed well. Eklund’s vast skill set opened the door ffor everyone.
TEAM 4
Talk about a nasty combo, this was definitely one of them. James had a rare mix of height, size, and ball skills at his age. He was a matchup nightmare all day long at the Freshman Showcase. James played with his back to the basket as well as facing the rim on the perimeter.
Lovejoy was a speedy little guard that could shoot the lights out. He was fast with his dribble in both straight line speed and change of direction. With Lovejoy’s speed and shooting and James’ physique and skill set, this was a tough duo to contain.
TEAM 5
Charter has one of the highest basketball IQ’s in this years freshman class. He’s controlled, scans the floor, and makes sound decisions with the basketball. Charter’s steady hand matched well with a no nonsense post player.
Arnold was that no nonsense post player that paired so well with Charter. When you combine heady plays on the perimeter with a battler in the paint, it’s tough on opponents. Arnold was equally as steady under the rim, rarely making defensive mistakes and showing the ability to extend possessions on offense.
TEAM 8
This young man has a big time future. He just makes plays with the ball in his hands that are beyond his years. Frantz has a terrific feel for the game and could end up as one of the best passers in the state when it’s all said and done.
It’s tough to slow 2 elite playmakers on the floor. Ryans is a perfect example of ‘bigger, faster, stronger’. The young man has the look of a bona fide basketball player right when he walks in the gym. Ryans has future Mr. Basketball type of talent.
