Coming fresh off of back-to-back championships, Lee returns a lot of players with big-game experience and chemistry. Let’s check out the key players!
Woods is a versatile wing that is looking to build off of a strong championship game performance and emerge as one of the better wings in the North Alabama area. As a rangy, athletic wing, Woods brings a diverse skill set that can have him play 1-3 and sometimes move up to a small ball four. Woods has enough handles to initiate the offense, run the break in transition, and create opportunities for himself off the bounce. As a slithery slasher, he’s also adept at making timely cuts and finishing at the rim. Defensively Woods has the tool to be a multi-positional defender and a swiss army knife that can be a frequent disruptor. He has quick feet, long arms, and the competitive drive to be a point-of-attack defender or close out on shooters and force difficult shots. With Jacari Lane graduating, expect Woods to step up as Lee’s top general.
Namon Hobson
Namon Hobson
Hobson is a defensive-minded guard who can affect the game without scoring. With quickness, grit, and defensive IQ, he’s sure to generate steals, deflections, and disruption to the opposing offense. He’ll also be an asset as a rebounder with his hustle and positioning despite his size. Though he doesn’t have traditional size, Hobson is fully capable of taking on the best perimeter players and holding his own. Hobson is also a consistent contributor on the offensive end. With experience in Coach Brown’s system, he’s going to cut hard, take smart shots, and play within the flow of the offense.
Lamont Smothers
Lamont Smothers
Smothers is a 3&D guard who knows his role and sticks to it. Though he won’t make the highlight play or end up on SC Top 10, he does the little things that help teams win. He can knock down shots off the catch, space the floor, be a secondary ball handler, and play within a structured offense. Defensively he’s going to put himself in a position to succeed, handle the quicker guards off the dribble, and use his quickness to run guys off the line.
