Tameron Ferguson Tameron Ferguson 6'2" | PG St. Cloud Tech | 2024 State MN of St. Cloud Tech (2024). When it comes to crafting an attack, and the first step to get to space off that attack, Tameron is among the best in Minnesota. His ability to get to the middle of the paint – by quick attack or steady crafty attack – is too much for the initial defender to deal with so you have to get extra help middle or Tameron is going to dagger you over and over. This is what we saw yesterday as Ferguson got to the paint consistently for his touched in attempts and his passes to the 6’4 size around the basket for easy finishes. One of the toughest players to defend in the state when that defender is left on an island. Surely a scholarship guard talent.
Luke Graff Luke Graff 6'3" | SG Holy Family | 2024 State MN of Champlin Park (2024). Everything I saw about Luke on Sunday I thought was better than what I saw last winter and in the 16u season. His ability to separate himself from his man with a quick move followed by his quick dribble into the next move really stood out. Graff is quicker with the ball and better off the bounce than I knew. He can surely shoot the ball so just know that every time we talk about Luke. What also grabbed my attention was how good of a passer Graff was off the initial entry pass, off his creation, and out of the post even. Graff has taken a really nice step forward as a player prospect.
Boden Kapke Boden Kapke 6'11" | C Holy Family | 2023 State #153 Nation MN of Holy Family (2023). If Holy Family can play this well against Hopkins and Eastview it really makes me wonder how impressive the record can be in Class AA basketball. And if Kapke can put up a 17 point, 10 rebound double-double in a 40 minute running time game against scholarship Eastview players, good luck to the smaller teams that have to face him. And we talked at length of the strength of Pharrel Payne last year especially in the lower body, Kapke is right there too as he looks much, much stronger. His core strength will have him college ready in terms of strength immediately when he gets to Butler.
Jonathan Mekonnen Jonathan Mekonnen 6'8" | PF Eastview | 2024 State #201 Nation MN of Eastview (2024). We all know the story, Mekonnen played JV last year. And when he played against Park Center, most watching the game talked about how Mekonnen was the best player for the Lightning on the floor. Mekonnen then followed that with a solid game against the Holy Family 6’10 seniors. He’s explosive, Mekonnen looks stronger, he’s finding angles around the basket to score against size, and Jonathan looks very comfortable with the face up dribble.
Collin Mulholland Collin Mulholland 6'10" | C Holy Family | 2023 State MN of Holy Family (2023). The first viewing of Collin was in the spring but we really weren’t quite sure what we were dealing with, we just new Collin was good. Then as the summer went on he was solid, but he’s then had a great fall at open workouts and yesterday Collin looked like the prospect that has had many division one schools stopping by this fall. The shooting touch is there, the size is a legit at 6’10, and as Collin showed on his spin move beating Mekonnen baseline, the agility is surely there. In fact, when you combine the pretty touch (hit a couple threes yesterday), the agility both up the floor as well as his quickness laterally, and the size, this is a rare prospect. And a D1 prospect for sure.
Dylan Omweno Dylan Omweno 6'0" | PG Eastview | 2023 State MN of Eastview (2023). Early in the game against Holy Family, Omweno attacked for two quick scores, he hit two threes, and his ball pressure forced several quick turnovers. He set the tone. Then at the end of the game Dylan hit an important late three and then secured the game with a steal and exclamation point dunk at the end. It was a strong start, and a strong finish for a 15 point game.
Chiang Ring Chiang Ring 6'8" | C Park Center | 2024 State #276 Nation MN of Park Center (2024). This is really an “everybody on Park Center was too dang good for the opponents” post. What can you really say when all the Pirate regulars all ran the floor well, they all shared the ball well, and they all finished at the rim emphatically very well. But Chiang stood out a little bit extra with his shot blocking. He’s the best shot blocker in Minnesota and his ability to meet the ball rapidly is special. Ring blocked another load of attempts yesterday.
Cedric Tomes Cedric Tomes 6'0" | PG East Ridge | 2026 State MN of East Ridge (2026). I have been somewhat taking things slow here as Cedric is so young but it’s time to say it, Tomes is a special, special talent. His leadership and confidence at this age reminds me of only one other family in modern Minnesota High School basketball, and I’m going to wait on that. But Tomes taking the ball in overtime, clearing everybody, and shooting a VOLLEYBALL LINE three and saying “game time” as he did, and watching it swish for the walk-off win, incredible. There is a reason the Minnesota Gophers have been by East Ridge multiple times to see him already, Tomes is making his push for top player in his grade.
