919 Prospects to Watch, Part II

Here’s a look at some up-and-coming talent in Part 2 of the 919 prospects to keep an eye on heading into 2022-23.

Chris Uwayo Chris Uwayo 6'1" | CG Panther Creek | 2024 State NC – Panther Creek High

Uwayo was a bit of an unsung hero at the point guard spot for Panther Creek High in their run to the state finals. He emerged at the point guard spot at a key moment for the Catamounts this past season and returns looking to do more with the experience of last season under his belt. He averaged 6.7 ppg, 2.2 apg, 1.5 rpg and 1.2 spg as a sophomore this past season.

Gabriel Cerda Gabriel Cerda 5'10" | CG Millbrook | 2023 State NC – Millbrook High

Cerda had a quiet season on the grassroots front this past spring/summer but it’s not hard to deny his contributions to the Wildcats’ success in 2021-22. He returns after producing 6.4 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 1.8 apg and 1.8 spg and returns for his senior season as one of the leading names for Millbrook High in the backcourt. Look for him to turn some heads with his play this year.

Fred Whitaker Fred Whitaker 5'11" | PG Northwood | 2024 State NC – Northwood High

Whitaker is an active point guard that makes an impact on both ends of the floor at Northwood High. His teammate Drake Powell Drake Powell 6'6" | CG Northwood | 2024 State #58 Nation NC recently committed to the UNC Tar Heels which should be motivation enough for Whitaker heading into a pivotal junior season. He posted 13.3 ppg, 3.9 rpg, 3.4 apg and 3.1 spg as a sophomore in 2021-22. Look for the budding point guard to have a strong 2022-23 campaign.

Kenan Parrish Kenan Parrish 6'9" | C Northwood | 2023 State NC – Northwood High

Parish is another prospect at Northwood High to keep an eye on as a late-blooming prospect in the 2023 class in the state. He uses his length well to impose his will on the game and looks ready to build upon a solid junior year of production. He averaged 8.7 ppg and 5.0 rpg in 2021-22 and looks ready to turn a corner after a strong grassroots season.

Chris Crudup Chris Crudup 6'3" | PG Southern Wake Academy | 2024 State NC – Garner Magnet High

Krudup turned heads this spring/summer with his play on the grassroots scene with No Guts No Glory. He’s impressed entering the fall in fall leagues and shown he’s a threat both with and without the ball in his hands and is slowly learning how to put constant pressure on the basketball. Look for his name to grow in NC’s 2024 class this season.
