2022-23 Season Preview: Top Greater Metro Prospects

The Greater Metro has long been recognized as one of the top conferences that Wisconsin High School Basketball has to offer. This year, there are several prospects to keep an eye on from the Greater Metro. Prep Hoops Wisconsin takes a look at some names you should know:

Luther Smith Luther Smith 6'1" | SG Sussex Hamilton | 2023 State WI — SG — Sussex Hamiliton

Smith is hands down one of the best three-point shooters in the state, regardless of conference. If opposing defenders make a mistake and leave the shooting guard open, there is a very good chance he will knock down a shot. Smith isn’t just a pure shooter, though. Over the years he has developed into a complete scorer. He does a good job of slashing to the rim and finishing layups. He has also shown an ability to knock down shots in the mid-range.

Danny Staskunas Danny Staskunas 6'1" | PG West Allis Hale | 2023 State WI — CG — West Allis Hale

I really love the versatility that Staskunas brings to the table on the offensive end of the court. Because he can play either guard position at a high level, the West Allis Hale standout is a real threat to defenders. The combo guard is a knockdown shooter who can get hot in a hurry. When Staskunas is on the court, good things typically happen for his squad.

Joe Stewart Joe Stewart 5'11" | SG Brookfield East | 2023 State WI — SG — Brookfield East

Stewart is a prospect who could be in for a major breakout season. The Brookfield East shooting guard was able to do some impressive things last season, and I expect him to build on his momentum and play well this season. Stewart is a tough, gritty prospect who makes all the necessary hustle plays required for winning.

Jack Daugherty Jack Daugherty 6'8" | PF Brookfield Central | 2024 State WI — PF — Brookfield Central

After helping lead Brookfield Central to the state championship game last season, Daugherty is a prospect who is expected to step up this season for the Lancers. As an isolation scorer, Daugherty is very versatile. He can drain shots from beyond the arc or convert on contested jumpers in the mid-range. College coaches should keep a close eye on Daugherty — he is poised for a breakout campaign.

Cole Hansen Cole Hansen 6'4" | SG Legacy Early College | 2024 State SC — SG — Wauwatosa West

Hansen is a prospect that I really enjoyed watching this past AAU season. While playing for Wisconsin Playground Club, the shooting guard was able to accomplish some pretty impressive things. Hansen is an efficient shooter from beyond the arc who can put a lot of pressure on opposing defenses. He also has showed some impressive improvements as a slasher, which bodes very well for this upcoming season.

Nolan Minessale Nolan Minessale 6'5" | SF Marquette | 2024 State WI — SF — Marquette

Minessale is an electric prospect who is very fun to watch. When the Marquette small forward gets out in transition, the chances of him completing a highlight-worthy play is very high. Minessale is an incredible athlete who is capable of slamming home some pretty impressive dunks. Look for the SF to catch the eyes of some top level college programs this season.

Aidan Konop Aidan Konop 6'2" | SG Sussex Hamilton | 2024 State WI — SG — Sussex Hamiliton

Konop is a name to keep a close eye on this winter. He isn’t the flashiest or most exciting prospect to watch, but the shooting guard flat out gets the job done. Leading Sussex Hamiliton in the backcourt, the SG always seems to make the right basketball play. Whenever his squad needs a big play, Konop typically steps up.

Kai Rogers Kai Rogers 6'10" | C Wauwatosa West | 2025 State WI — C — Wauwatosa West

It is only a matter of time until Rogers is recognized as one of the best players in the Greater Metro. There just aren’t many opposing prospects that will be able to successfully match Rogers physically. Standing at 6-foot-10 with an extremely strong build, the center does a great job of using his size to domiante in the paint.
