HS Team Preview: Kell

They'll be led by one of the country's top big men, [player_tooltip player_id='1201615' first='Peyton' last='Marshall'], who's improved tremendously since last season. The Longhorns welcome a new starting point guard in the highly-touted [player_tooltip player_id='1201630' first='CJ' last='Brown']. Surrounding Brown and Marshall are a strong group of athletic wings and spot-up shooters. He's slimmed down a bit and his footwork has improved a lot. Major paint presence that will dominate undersized teams.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>2024 6'2 G [player_tooltip player_id='1201630' first='CJ' last='Brown']</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='1201630' first='CJ' last='Brown'] transfers in from Walker and the 2024 guard already looks comfortable and confident playing with Kell. Brown is a bouncy, playmaking guard that can control the pace and create on the offensive end. </p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>2023 6'5 G [player_tooltip player_id='820314' first='Aaron' last='Smith']</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>Smith is a long, athletic guard that will be asked to do a lot of different things this year. He can play multiple positions along the perimeter, knock down the open 3, and finish at the rim. I like to think of him as Kell's Swiss-army knife.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>2023 6'5 G [player_tooltip player_id='598767' first='Parrish' last='Johnson']</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='598767' first='Parrish' last='Johnson'] is Kell's elite perimeter defender. He's a long, rangy defender that can take away the other team's top scorer. He's also effective as a slasher and secondary ball-handler on the offensive end.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>2024 6'1 G [player_tooltip player_id='1215446' first='Jaylen' last='Colon']</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>[player_tooltip player_id='1215446' first='Jaylen' last='Colon'] gives Kell another option in the backcourt and is capable of playing either guard spot. Colon shoots it really well from 3 and has looked good handling the ball too. Plays with a ton of energy and hustle. He'll anchor the paint when Marshall needs a breather.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p><strong>2025 6'0 G Connor Staphylaris</strong></p> <!-- /wp:paragraph --> <!-- wp:paragraph --> <p>While Staphylaris may be the youngest of the group, he plays with no hesitancy. He's a lethal shooter with a quick trigger and knocks it down more often than not. He should get a lot of open looks as defenses collapse on Marshall and Brown.</p> <!-- /wp:paragraph -->
