Earlier this month we released the updated 2023 player rankings. No set of rankings are perfect, which means there is plenty of room for movement throughout especially with how closely we monitor the local prospects here at Prep Hoops MD/DC. As players emerge in their different and in some cases more involved roles, their ranking can improve. For this article, I'll take a look at some prospects who I believe will out-play their current ranking and force a boost in the next update.

[player_tooltip player_id='1413498' first='Quinton' last='Monroe'] | 6'3 | Lake Clifton

Current ranking: No. 41

Monroe forced his way onto our radar after playing a big role on last year's state title team. He embodies what head coach Herman Harried like in his players which is tough-nosed guys who get after it on the defensive end and can play bigger than their listed height. Not only does Monroe bring all of that, but he also can really get going from deep. He's expected to fill and even bigger role on this year's team and the Lakers will likely get off to a strong start thanks to his efforts, which should ultimately lead to a bump in his ranking and his recruitment.

[player_tooltip player_id='957108' first='Farrell' last='Crowell'] | 6'2 | Shabach Christian Academy

Current Ranking: No. 52

Crowell had a productive spring and summer with the District playing on the ball and creating for others. He brings good size for a guard at 6-foot-2 with a strong frame and will be leaned on to produce at a consistent rate for a talented Shabach Christian Academy squad. If Crowell can prove himself in the efficiency category, it's likely that the number beside his name will improve.

[player_tooltip player_id='1114029' first='Ryan' last='Sabol'] | 6'2 | Gonzaga

Current Ranking: No. 70

If there was one player on this list who I had to bet would improve his ranking it would be Sabol. He looked extremely impressive in the fall workouts that I caught earlier this month and should be a vital piece for head coach Steve Turner's backcourt along with 2025 [player_tooltip player_id='1370498' first='Nykolas' last='Lewis']. Sabol is a smooth, three level scorer who plays with an edge that guys his size need in order to score at the volume he does. He'll benefit tremendously playing alongside the crafty guard that Lewis is, but will also take some of the load off his shoulders in the scoring departments for spurts of games. Sabol is a guy who should be on radars.

[player_tooltip player_id='1280962' first='Brashawn' last='Galloway'] | 6'4 | Mount St. Joseph

Current Ranking: No. 95

In a very under-the-radar addition via transfer, the Gaels acquired Galloway in August. The 6-foot-4 southpaw has a chance to play a big role in head coach Pat Clatchey's rotation thanks to his size, versatility and shot making ability. The Gaels are stacked at guard and have plenty of quality in their frontcourt with Illinois commit [player_tooltip player_id='957018' first='Amani' last='Hansberry'], 2024 [player_tooltip player_id='1280947' first='Tyonne' last='Farrell'] and 2025 [player_tooltip player_id='1371862' first='Brandon' last='Holmes'], but Galloway fills a void as a wing and can even slide down as a four for portions of games. It'll require complete buy-in from Galloway on his role, but if he can find his niche quickly, he'll ranking and recruitment will pick up significant steam.

[player_tooltip player_id='957056' first='Teriq' last='Johnson'] | 5'10 | Ballou

Current Ranking: No. 112

Johnson was a standout from the DMV Elite 80 and has the opportunity to prove it as a consistent theme this season for Ballou. The lefty can knock down three's off the catch, create for himself off the bounce and finish in creative ways around the basket. He's a blur in transition and has good instincts in split-second decision as defenders react to his action. Johnson mans his position well defensively with active hands and good feet. He'll be one we play close attention to once the season rolls around.
