THE FAVORITE: Oshkosh North

The Spartans lost a lot of valuable role players from last season's team, but think the 1-2 punch of [player_tooltip player_id='1089684' first='Stevie' last='Clark'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1282617' first='Xzavion' last='Mitchell'] gives them the edge. North finished fourth in the league last season with an 11-7 record in FVA play. If they can find some of the toughness and effort plays that Cooper Juedes, Reed Seckar, and others provided, think they'll be alright.

TOP CONTENDER: Neenah

Speaking of duos, [player_tooltip player_id='963148' first='Cal' last='Klesmit'] and [player_tooltip player_id='1203253' first='Brady' last='Corso'] make up the best backcourt in the FVA. A pair of shooters and playmakers, it looked like Corso and Klesmit can co-exist and play off each other this summer -- even though there's probably going to still be a feeling-out process since they didn't play together in 2021-22. The defending champs have a lot to replace from last season, but this is always a deep program that's going to find pieces to fill the puzzle.

DARK HORSE: Appleton East

While we're talking about duos, East might have the best trio between [player_tooltip player_id='1138440' first='Caleb' last='Glaser'], [player_tooltip player_id='1203186' first='Tyson' last='Keil'], and [player_tooltip player_id='1258392' first='Joey' last='LaChapell']. Loved what I saw from LaChapell as a freshman. He was unflappable in high-level games. With the Patriots' strong, athletic frontcourt, they can give teams a lot of problems. Wouldn't sleep on them winning this league, even though they lost their top two scorers.

PLAYER OF THE YEAR: [player_tooltip player_id='963148' first='Cal' last='Klesmit']

Think the ACL injury will all but be behind Klesmit once the season arrives -- if it's not already. The Neenah guard missed his entire junior year, but shook the cobwebs off in July. Committed to UW-Green Bay, Klesmit broke out as a sophomore, averaging 10 points per game for the Rockets. A scoring assassin with a killer instinct, Klesmit can make 30-point efforts look easy.

BREAKOUT PLAYER: [player_tooltip player_id='981150' first='Seth' last='Miron']

Been waiting a while for Miron to get his shot in a deep Kimberly program. Miron now has the keys to the car as a senior. The Papermakers lose a ton from its 18-9 squad last season that took D1 state champ Neenah down to the wire three times, losing to their rival by a combined five points in those three defeats. A skilled 6-foot-5 wing with athleticism, Miron is hungry and quietly averaged 11.6 ppg as a junior while shooting better than 60 percent from the field.

SURPRISE PLAYER: [player_tooltip player_id='1200576' first='Mikail' last='Harmison']

Harmison had a very good end to his summer and the senior wing is playing with a whole new brand of confidence. Averaging 13 points and five rebounds per game last season, Harmison is a sweet-shooting wing who's also learning to put the ball on the deck and use that strong frame. Although West was 4-21 a year ago, Harmison could be a big reason why they move up the ladder in the FVA.
