Below is the tenth installment in our Transfer Watch 2022 series. In this edition of the Transfer Watch, you will notice that with the start of the 2022-23 academic year just two weeks away, one DI prospect is departing Pennsylvania and the Philadelphia Catholic League continues to add major talent.
Ty Burton Ty Burton 5'10" | PG Moravian Prep | 2024 State NC – 5’10” / Junior / IMG (FL) / Philly Pride National / Combo Guard: For the past two years Burton (pic above) has been one of Pennsylvania’s most entertaining backcourt prospects. Burton (formerly of Lampeter-Strasburg) is an attacking, downhill style of guard who can score off the dribble and splash threes (63 3PM in 2021-22; 40% from deep). Last winter Burton posted 21.2 ppg. while racking up four 30+ point games. He led L&S to an undefeated regular season, the Lebanon-Lancaster League tournament trophy, the District 3-5A title and an appearance in the PIAA state tournament. After his tremendous season, Burton was the unanimous choice for L-L League-Section 3 POY and a 1st Team 5A All-State selection. He holds an offer from Manhattan.
Chase Jackson Chase Jackson 5'11" | PG Scotland Campus | 2023 State PA – 6’0” / Post Grad / Scotland Campus / NJ Shore Shots / Combo Guard: This dynamic combo-guard with elusive handles missed several games last year at Paramus Catholic (NJ) because of injuries. When healthy, Jackson displayed he can score the rock at all three levels. However, he is also willing distributor who will not hesitate to move the ball to an open teammate. The highlight of Jackson’s 2021-22 season came when he recorded 19 points and 10 rebounds vs. Dwight Morrow HS. On defense Jackson is a plus player who’s intense on-ball pressure frequently produces steals that lead to easy hoops.
Kevin Rucker Kevin Rucker 6'5" | SG Bonner-Prendergast | 2024 State PA – 6’6” / Junior / Bonner & Prendergast / We R1 / Power Forward: The former Chester starter was a key piece of the Clippers District 1-5A championship team last year. Rucker scored 27 points in the semis and then 17 in the championship game of that district tourney. Still, it was his 38-point game at Philly HS Live II in June that really grabbed the attention of college coaches. Rucker’s versatility is a match-up nightmare for opponents. He is a long athlete with significant hops, so he can mix it up on the interior. However, he is also a dependable ball handler and can shoot jumpers. Thus, he is a threat on the perimeter as well. Rucker holds offers from Drexel and Rider.
Gus Salem – 6’2” / Senior / Archbishop Wood / Philly Pride National / Combo Guard: Salem comes to the PCL from Santa Monica HS (CA) where he was a captain and helped the squad win the 2021-22 Bay League Championship. Salem is a high-level three-point shooter who stretches the floor with his deep range. Additionally, he often plays the role of poised floor general, getting his team into their half-court sets under extreme pressure. Last season Salem scored 19 points vs. Hamilton HS as well as 15 points in the Bay League ‘chip game. At the other end, Salem’s quickness and instincts allow him to knife through passing lanes for steals.
