This past weekend, Youngsville, Louisiana hosted some of the best players in the state to participate in the third edition of the Statement Session. Mal Mundy and Hoopfest Tours had a varied group of preps from the 2023 and 2024 classes compete and show who was the best of the best. Prep Hoops Louisiana was in the building and got a chance to see this high quality group of players. In this PHLA exclusive from the Statement Session, we will highlight the top players at the event by giving you who we feel made the All-Statement Session team on the day.

1st Team

[player_tooltip player_id='970111' first='Jamaria' last='Clark'] (6'2" / Doyline)

Clark was the best player on the day. His 38 point explosion to secure a bye during the bracket round was done in a 24 min game. He is arguably the best shooter in the 2023 class. Clark is also a three level scorer who does not mind making plays for others. His performance won him the top trophy on the weekend. While Clark is all about team accomplishments, individual accolades galore may come his way this season.

[player_tooltip player_id='1159181' first='Trey'Dez' last='Green'] (6'7" / East Feliciana)

Green has played at a high level the whole summer and he continued that good play at Youngsville on the weekend. He had to play differently as he was not the primary inside threat for his team. All he did was grab rebound after rebound on the offensive and defensive boards and showed that he could lead the break as a rebound-and-go forward. His motor is undeniable as well as Green showed everyone why he is a top big in this state.

[player_tooltip player_id='970125' first='De'Vion' last='Lavergne'] (6'3" / North Central)

Lavergne got it done on the offensive and defensive end of the floor. He scored the ball in various ways showing the diversity of his offensive game. The series of jumpers, layups, and dunks gave defenders fits during the course of the day. While his offense was on, Lavergne was even better on defense. The way he defended the pick-and-roll and his on the ball defense was exceptional. His two way play set a high standard on Saturday.

[player_tooltip player_id='1273398' first='Cardez' last='Norman'] (6'6" / Sterlington)

Norman was in command of the defensive boards on Saturday. The way he grabbed rebounds with both hands and secured them was a mix of old school basketball with a show of strength. On the offensive boards, Norman displayed a quick second and third jump when it came to tip-ins. Finally, his show of power finishing above the rim was nothing short of phenomenal. Norman made a definite impression with his play on Saturday.

[player_tooltip player_id='1145438' first='Kohen' last='Rowbatham'] (6'2" / Northshore)

Kohen was his usual self which was very good on Saturday. He attacked the rim with reckless abandon and used a ton of body control to finish layups while being defended at the rim. His quick first step, along with staying low to the ground, made it hard for defenders to guard him. Rowbatham also showed that he could defend in space. His play Saturday almost helped his team win the Session title in Youngsville.

2nd Team

[player_tooltip player_id='1475974' first='Dorian' last='Booker'] (6'10" / Scotlandville) - space eater who loves to score over his right shoulder; Booker impressed with his ability to finish despite getting hit

[player_tooltip player_id='1105533' first='Jordan' last='Comanche'] (6'5" / Wossman) - point guard who showed that he can place pressure on defenses in transition going one-on-one or one-on-two; very good shooter with plenty of range

[player_tooltip player_id='1105591' first='Howard' last='Gaskins'] (6'1" / Liberty) - point guard who can get downhill to the rim; he can also get to his spots on the floor using the dribble effectively; solid defender who can create offense from defense

[player_tooltip player_id='970112' first='Jaylon' last='Hicks'] (6'5" / Carver) - wing who knows how to finish in transition; three level scorer who can get his shot off against any defender

[player_tooltip player_id='1273359' first='Elliot' last='McQuillan'] (6'2" / North Central) - combo guard who can shoot the ball with the best of them; he is a corner three specialist who can also put the ball on the deck

Honorable Mention

[player_tooltip player_id='1386539' first='Turner' last='Duncan'] (St. Augustine); [player_tooltip player_id='1213569' first='Jakobe' last='Dykes'] (Shaun Dumas Academy); [player_tooltip player_id='1105536' first='Jeremiah' last='Evans'] (Southwood); [player_tooltip player_id='1130799' first='Brandon' last='Rodgers-Hardy'] (Zachary); [player_tooltip player_id='1381595' first='Shavurdacour' last='Nicholas'] (LB Landry); [player_tooltip player_id='1381596' first='Ronneal' last='Harold'] (Amite); [player_tooltip player_id='1480391' first='Allen' last='Graves'] (Ponchatoula); [player_tooltip player_id='1132619' first='Anthony' last='Johnson'] (LB Landry); [player_tooltip player_id='1105549' first='Laurence' last='Nathan'] (Carver); Malik Miner (JF Kennedy); [player_tooltip player_id='1127251' first='Decedric' last='Webb'] (Huntington); [player_tooltip player_id='970139' first='Chris' last='Carpenter'] (Huntington)
