Players like Collin Chandler, Rex Sunderland and among other players that have really been staples in Region 1 for years. Do not overlook Region 1 teams, there are teams that have some older players that will now get playing time that they did not get last season and they’re hungry. This is Part 1 of Region 1 Key Players.
Clearfield High School || 6’7 F Austin Mitchell || 2023 ||
Clearfield is 10-54 in the past three years in Region 1. Last season they recorded 3 very tough wins in region play but they will need more consistency and the player that can really give them that is Austin. He is a big that can protect the paint and he could get some deep touches in the paint that can make it easier for them to score with some well designed plays and well run offense. Austin could easily be a double-double threat every night. Look for him to be more assertive as Clearfield will need all of his scoring and more to be successful.
Davis High School || 6’4 CG Colby Whicker Colby Whicker 6'2" | CG Davis | 2023 State UT || 2023 ||
The fact that Davis lost so many solid players yet still has some players to fill in gaps and somewhat reload them speaks a lot to the culture there. Colby Whicker Colby Whicker 6'2" | CG Davis | 2023 State UT is going to be a really tough player to stop because he can find different ways to score. Davis will relly on him among other players to remain one of the top scoring teams in the state. Colby provides steady driving ability and solid 3-point shooting.
Farmington High School || 6’8 F Paul Beattie Paul Beattie 6'9" | PF Farmington | 2024 State UT || 2024 ||
Farmington lost one of the most dynamic players the state has seen in sometime. That means Paul is going to increase his touches by 20% but everyone knows Paul can score and Paul plays the right way and he will find open players and make the right play. If Paul continues to develop that outside shot he could lure in some potential schools to offer him a spot on their team. Paul is tough and finds pockets in the defense to rebound and score. Should be averaging 17+ and 10+ rebounds a game.
Fremont High School || 6’4 PG Hunter Hansen Hunter Hansen 6'4" | PG Fremont | 2024 State UT || 2024 ||
Fremont is a sleeper team that has some dudes on their roster. Hunter Hansen Hunter Hansen 6'4" | PG Fremont | 2024 State UT has really turned the corner this summer as he looks more lean and muscular and his shot is falling from all three-levels. Hunter has some positional size at the PG position and he has some room left to grow and to develop his game as well. He has a good handle and as he matures he will be able to go out and get some big time buckets, especially when the clock is running down. Like him as a stock riser in that Class of 2024.
