There are plenty of guys around the state who used the summer to prepare for a big school-ball leap. Here are a few forwards who might fit that description:
Jay Acosta
Jay Acosta
Acosta barely got his feet wet with the varsity last year, but he shows a lot of signs of readiness for a role this year. He can play the guard or forward spots, crashing the boards, defending and handling the ball all equally well. He is a physical player who loves to battle in the paint. He is always on the attack and is especially good in transition after ripping down a rebound.
Linkon Cure
Linkon Cure
This long, athletic monster is ready to bust loose after getting a little time as a ninth grader. He pops on the floor for the type of highlight plays he can make. If he can harness his talents and minimize mistakes, he can be special. There are few guys in Western Kansas who can match his length, explosiveness, and ability with the ball. He can dominate in the paint, step out on the perimeter, drop precision passes and push the ball from end to end.
Kaden Franklin
Kaden Franklin
A jumping jack who can make rugged plays in the paint and creates a lot of opportunities in the midrange, Franklin looks like he’s ready to take a big leap on the varsity scene. He was a difference maker for the Padres this summer, getting to jumpers off the bounce, grabbing a ton of rebounds, and creating mismatches at both ends. He can really get up and affect shots.
Jevon Glover
Jevon Glover
Glover didn’t get many opportunities last year for a really good Grizzlies squad. He demonstrated with the Padres that he’s ready for a big leap this year. He can put the ball on the floor and blow by a defender, or shoot it from really deep. He slices through the lane to get to the goal and finish. He’s long and athletic and disruptive at the defensive end.
Gage Hollenbeck

Hollenbeck can really shoot it from the wing, and he’s also got the physical interior game. He plays smart and can make the tough pass when it presents itself without forcing it. He has a diverse game that can cause mismatches. He didn’t get many opportunities last year at Olathe South, but should be ready for a lot more this winter.
