Continue ReadingIt started as a top five, grew to a top ten, and finally settled in as a top fifteen; this list of prospects from the Greater Spokane area shows the depth of talent across the 2023 and 2024 classes. Known as Hooptown USA, the players that call Hooptown, “Hometown,” are backing up the name with spectacular play and help boast some of the most successful programs in the state. We’re starting from the bottom and working our way up. Here are the best of Spokane, spots 9-15.
No. 15 | Sorweide moves over to North Central for the upcoming season and will fill a nice hole for them on the wings. He is a big body that can affect the game from inside and out. He’s got a decent stroke from distance and really brings physicality to the paint. Sorweide can do a little bit of it all and should be a nice glue guy for North Central.
No. 14 | Barbour may not have gotten the shine that teammates Jaedyn Brown Jaedyn Brown 6’3″ | CG Pullman | 2023 State WA and Grayson Hunt received, but he filled a key role for the Greyhounds on their way to the 2A title game. He’s a solid point guard that takes care of the ball, runs the offense, and does all the things that ensure the team operates smoothly.
No. 13 | Skaife looked like a sweet shooting wing last season but really grew as an all-around player this spring and summer. It’s going to be a completely new look at Ferris this winter with only Skaife and Patrick Murphy Patrick Murphy 6’7″ | PF Ferris | 2023 State WA returning to the varsity squad. It will be fun to see him step into that leadership role. He hit multiple big shots for his AAU team this summer and seems ready to be the vocal guy leading from the front.
No. 12 | Crowley was a great compliment last season to Dylan Darling and showed skill as a clutch three-point threat and an aggressive contributor on the glass. It seems like Crowley has taken that toughness and aggression he attacks the boards with and spread that attitude out across his game. He goes to the rim hard and is as confident as ever in his long-range shot. He’ll be asked to do a lot more this season with one of the top players in the state leaving for WSU.
No. 11 | This guy had a significant role at Mt. Spokane last season and seems ready to do even more this winter. He’s been playing this summer with great confidence, shooting off the dribble and attacking the hoop with purpose. He’s quick and strong on the wing and can also affect the game on the glass with his big-time effort. Rayment will be a big factor for Mt. Spokane this season, making plays and staying active.
No. 10 | Here is a guy who really looks primed to break out. Sandberg is a natural athlete who excels on the baseball diamond as well. He’s able to drain shots from all over the floor, can act as a secondary point man, and is only getting better. He did a few things to catch my eye last season but really made me take notice with his strong play this summer.
No. 9 | Chapel is a machine getting to his spots and drilling jumpers from the mid-range. He has a nice first step from the triple-threat and really keeps that dribble close, making quick moves in compact space and rising up fast on the jumper. He is a strong player with good feet that can also impact the game on the defensive end.
That’s it for this round. Spots 1-8 will go up tomorrow and we’ll see just who the King of Spokane really is.
